The value of your ICAS membership

8 November 2022

As the world you live and work in adapts to new circumstances, so too does your ICAS membership. You can be assured that, no matter what comes along, we will always be here to help you overcome the challenges and grasp the opportunities, so we can learn, grow and advance together.

ICAS membership is built to assist you through every stage of your career. Below you’ll find more information on just a few of the ways in which we’re working to connect, support and inspire you, with links to resources and further information to ensure you’re making the most of your membership.

Technical resources

Our Policy and Practice teams continue to produce a range of regular technical content, insight and thought leadership for Members. This includes content on tax, audit, ethics, pensions, insolvency, sustainability and corporate reporting. They produce timely insights and responses to events within the sector, which can be found across the content and communications we share. Our dedicated practice team are also on hand to answer your queries and provide technical guidance on everything from insolvency to anti-money laundering (AML).

See some of the specific technical resources and support available to you on our Professional Resources webpage.

CA magazine and thought leadership content

Our thought leadership harnesses expert insight and analysis to guide the profession and drive the debate, offering you exclusive content on topics including sustainability, trust and ethics, EDI, mental fitness, leadership and technology. The CA Summit, our award-winning, immersive, digital conference returned for the third time in October 2022, bringing together speakers from the worlds of finance, business and academia for thought-provoking topical debate and insight.

Your monthly dedicated magazine, CA magazine, offers a wealth of knowledge and content, as well as exclusive interviews to connect you with the brightest minds in business, accountancy and technology.

Public trust and ethical standards

We’re your industry champion, a regulator and ethical voice, maintaining public trust in business and finance whilst promoting and protecting the values of your CA designation. In the ICAS Standards and Policy teams, week in, week out, colleagues engage with key domestic and international standards and policy setters to influence, represent your views and promote the public interest.

Throughout the year we have continued to strengthen and promote the role of ethics in accountancy. At the beginning of 2022, ICAS adopted a revised Code of Ethics incorporating revisions to promote the role and mindset expected of professional accountants. The code outlines ICAS’ aim to always act with integrity, truthfulness and fair dealing, including respecting values of equality, diversity and inclusion. We highlighted resources to help you explore the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) Code series, which promotes awareness, adoption and implementation of the International Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants. We also responded to the IESBA Strategy Survey 2022 which sought input on what key trends, developments or issues IESBA should focus on.

Professional development and lifelong learning

As an ICAS Member you’re required to maintain and develop your skills and knowledge through continuous professional development (CPD). In an ever-changing world, maintaining your CPD will help you to remain relevant, boost your confidence and your capability. It can also help you to progress your career, move into new roles and grasp opportunities.

On icas.com, you can access a wide range online and classroom-based CPD courses, including many free courses, designed to help advance your technical, specialist and soft skills. We also have support and advice to help you manage the CPD process, alongside a range of features and support guides that will inform, inspire and help your professional progression.

Find out more and browse the available courses and classes on our professional development pages.

Supporting your professional progression

We understand the power of career mentoring and the vital role it can play in your professional success. This year, we launched our new Career Mentoring programme. The new platform is free to use for all ICAS Members and Students, is designed to enable mentoring relationships, connecting prospective mentors and mentees, no matter where they are in the world, with the ability to message, set up and host either online or in-person meetings. The programme connects you with a specific mentor/mentee matched with your skillset.

Find out more about the benefits of mentoring and get started with our Career Mentoring programme.

Ways to grow your network

With the worst of the pandemic behind us, the past year has seen the welcome return of our in-person events. In 2022, ICAS hosted over 90 online and in-person events for Members. The events are a great way to build and strengthen your professional network, connect with ICAS and hear from informative guest speakers.

To learn more about upcoming events, visit our events page.

ICAS is a member of Chartered Accountants Worldwide, a global network of 14 Chartered Accountancy bodies representing over 1.8 million members and students in 190 countries. The network plays an important role in protecting, promoting and developing the Chartered Accountancy brand and profession. Through CAW, you can access insight, webinars and podcasts on a range of topics to support your professional journey.

Maintaining a globally respected syllabus

We undertake an annual review and improvement process to ensure the CA qualification retains its reputation globally as a ‘gold standard’ in accountancy. Technical content changes and updates to the syllabus are carried out by ICAS tutors who are subject experts in their field and in course delivery.

These examples highlight just some of the many benefits of your ICAS membership.

It’s a membership that’s built to meet your needs through every stage of your career, no matter which role, sector or time zone you work in. We continually strive to understand those needs so we can update our support and target our investment in ways that bring you the greatest value.

Now, as Annual Renewal for 2023 membership opens, our efforts to deliver value continue.

Whilst the rise in your fees this year is relatively small, rest assured it will go a long way to ensuring you continue to receive the highest levels of support throughout the years to come.

At ICAS, we work hard to match the effort and resilience of you, our Members. To find out more about the full value and benefits of your ICAS membership visit our dedicated Members webpages.
