When not teaching you can expect to be working in collaboration with subject matter teams, preparing relevant course resources. Relevant practical experience is part of a CA Student’s journey, and you can expect, as part of the learning team, to review CA Student Achievement Logs, working across ICAS with colleagues in the specialist teams.
Whilst our Learning division continues to evolve, so will you, with opportunities to participate and develop in change programmes across ICAS.
Where is the job?
We currently teach in Edinburgh (Head Office), Glasgow and Aberdeen, so whilst you don’t necessarily need to be based in these cities, you will need to be willing and able to travel when required.

Fundraising Executive - ICAS Foundation
Part time - two to three days per week (flexible working considered)

Who we are:
The ICAS Foundation is a charity registered in Scotland. Our primary aim to support academically talented young people from disadvantaged communities to study accountancy or a finance-related degree. This is achieved through a financial bursary, a mentoring scheme and support in finding relevant internships and graduate jobs.
What the job is:
Working in collaboration with the Foundation’s Director, the Fundraising Executive will be responsible for establishing a cohesive fundraising strategy amongst ICAS Members to support the charitable aims of the Foundation. We are looking to develop a long-term strategy to transform the way in which the Foundation is currently funded. Therefore, this role will be pivotal to delivering the aspirations of the Foundation’s Business plan, the aims and objectives of the Foundation Trustees and for ICAS to ensure the viability and longevity of the ICAS Foundation.

Principal Accountabilities:
- Undertake research on prospective ICAS Members (using the ICAS personas) and to identify potential corporate donors from amongst ICAS Member firms
- Help to develop a fundraising strategy.
- Cold call potential donors and follow up on leads and build a sustainable relationship with them.
- Research and write case studies and communications on the impact of the Foundation’s work.
- Provide regular updates to donors on how their donation is spent.
- Respond to enquiries from ICAS Members and Firms.
- Write reports for the Foundation Trustees on the use of donations.
- Maintain and update a donors’ record on CRM system.

Regulatory Monitoring Reviewer
Full time
Location: Home-based with travel

Due to movement within our Regulation division, we have opportunities within the Regulatory Monitoring team for two new Reviewers to join us. As we progress with changes to the structure of the team, this is a great opportunity to be an integral part of our team ensuring best practice and standards are met.
What the job is:
The Regulatory Monitoring Reviewer (RMR) is central to the regulatory monitoring processes operated by ICAS ensuring that regulated individuals and firms meet the standards reasonably expected of them, and otherwise fulfil their legal and regulatory obligations. This allows ICAS to protect its reputation, the reputation of the accountancy profession, as well as the public interest.
The RMR must ensure that all regulatory monitoring is undertaken in accordance with ICAS’ internal processes and regulations, whilst also meeting various performance measures, whether set by ICAS or third parties. Such measure include:
- Report turnaround timescales
- Quality of reports and gradings
- Efficiency on visits
- Feedback forms from firms following visits.
RMR’s will conduct both onsite and remote monitoring visits to individuals and firms, complete due diligence, produce reports and provide feedback, advice, and guidance on how to resolve any issues identified.
The level of technical knowledge required is extensive and wide-ranging, with an expectation from firms that the reviewer will be knowledgeable in many areas and can guide them in the right direction.
Who we need:
We are looking for a qualified accountant, educated to a degree level, and experience of working in an accountancy practice, preferably at manager, senior manager or principal level, as well as knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS, AML and tax.
A clear understanding of the general practice environment and a sympathetic understanding of the significance of quality assurance in that environment would also be preferable.
As RMR you will have great people and stakeholder management skills with an ability to build and develop positive relationships with firms and individuals. These skills coupled with a clear and confident communication style (both written and oral) will enable you to, where necessary, deliver difficult messages to firms and individuals where you may have discovered areas of non-compliance, or a lack of competence and integrity.
The key decisions within the role primarily relate to the conduct of monitoring visits, where there is a constant requirement to conclude on the quality of work performed by a firm, or an individual, and the implications of this for reporting to the Authorisation Committee. These decisions have a direct impact on the continuing practice of a firm, and the livelihood of an individual.
These decisions can range from the grading given to a file and a visit, and to the proposed follow-up action to be concluded on by the Authorisation Committee.
Principal accountabilities:
- To carry out regulatory monitoring visits and follow-up reviews throughout the year, including conducting opening and closing meetings, conducting reviews of client files and financial statements; writing reports; addressing responses; and working to prompt visit deadlines. Monitoring will focus on audit, anti-money laundering (AML) compliance, as well as other areas of general accountancy practice (current referred to as Practice Monitoring).
- Conducting other specific tasks as and when required in assisting in operational aspects of the monitoring function, including reporting of data, updating procedures/guidance, writing articles, and presenting webinars for the benefit of members and firms.
- Participating in team and centre meetings, including leading of agenda items as required. Representing ICAS at external monitoring-related meetings and providing post-meeting feedback to ICAS colleagues. Building relationships based on those meetings.
- Conducting such regulatory monitoring work which ICAS may, from time to time, be contracted to perform for third parties, in the UK, and overseas, as required. Contributing to any other commercial contracts as and when required & meeting any deadlines set.
- Ensuring that ICAS’ website content in relation to all regulatory monitoring areas is up to date, including help sheets.
- Providing quality advice and assistance to individuals who submit queries to ICAS in relation to issues which the role-holder’s knowledge and experience (whether internal or external queries).
- Reporting to the Authorisation Committee, Regulation Board, and other ICAS governance bodies, in relation to monitoring-related issues.

Assessment & Quality Specialist
Fixed-term contract, 12 months

The CA is a prestigious qualification which allows graduates to go on to work at the highest levels of accountancy, finance, and business. The Assessment & Quality team at ICAS are responsible for the management, delivery, and administration of all ICAS assessment activity ensuring that all work is delivered to the highest standards of both academic integrity and operational excellence.
The role:
The Assessment & Quality Specialist is a key member of the assessment and Quality Team.
Within this role you would be responsible for supporting the Assessment & Quality Leads in all aspects of delivering both formative and summative Assessments to all ICAS Students as they progress through the qualification.
You will work collaboratively with the Learning Centre using data reporting and experience to facilitate continual improvements suggestions with the aim of delivering a more relevant, digital focused learning experience, which meet the needs of Students and Firms whilst maintaining ICAS’s focus on high quality, exception customer experience.
This role is customer facing and involves providing support to a wide range of candidates, across a range of scenarios, as they navigate through their course.
Who we need:
Ideally, we are looking for someone who has Assessment experience and who understands the challenges and the fine margins within an assessment environment. Someone who has an understanding and appreciation of the learning requirements of students and who can support them through both positive and difficult circumstances.
You will have excellent people skills and be adept at putting customers first, you will be process driven and be able to spot areas for improvement and change.
You will be a clear, open, and honest communicator, with high levels of integrity adept and putting ideas forward in a constructive manner and supporting and environment of continual, digital change.

Data Engineer

The Data and Insights team are a core part of the Organisation providing high quality analytics and insights to the wider ICAS team. Responsible for quantitative and qualitative survey data, operational reporting and data handling the team are looking for their newest member to assist with organising data for reporting.
The Data Engineer will work as part of the Data and Insights team to help deliver the ICAS Data Strategy. We work with stakeholders from around ICAS to understand their data needs, these stakeholders have a wide range of skills and technical experience. We need to discuss, anticipate and document their data journey and deliver this experience as best we can. In order to do this we extract data from the various systems around ICAS and store this information in our Enterprise Data Warehouse, optimised for reporting.
Who do we need?
This is a technical role and we are looking for someone who is comfortable operating in such a technical role. Whilst we will provide training in the particular technologies that we use we are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in a role which has regularly required extensive data manipulation (extraction, summarisation, correction, pivoting, combining, filtering or similar). A key skill is the ability to deal with a diverse group of stake holders and as such we are looking for someone who has worked on projects that required analysis of Business Systems or Business Process, recording findings and communicating these to a wider audience.
As we are looking for someone who will deal with all aspects of ICAS data we need someone who is adept at understanding the technical aspects of data as well as conveying the results in a way that non-technical business users will understand. In addition, you will be able to present and discuss your reasoning and rationale behind the proposed direction and design to the wider technical and leadership team.
You will be open minded, articulate and collaborative in your approach to building effective working relationships, forming partnerships with key stakeholders and achieving novel solutions to assist them on their data journey.
The ability to make sound technical decisions and to work as part of a team is inherent in this role. As Data Engineer you will be considered a resource for the organisation on all data matters. You should be comfortable making technical decisions, in what is an empowered position.
The role:
Reporting to the Senior Data Engineer, you will focus on the development and maintenance of the ICAS Data Warehouse ensuring good quality data integration routines with all source data, whilst supporting the immediate team and wider organisation in data matters.
We develop our data routines in SQL and SSIS using the DataVault 2.0 methodology. You will be supported to learn these different technologies and new technologies as the data landscape at ICAS develops.
As part of the Data and Insights team, you will capture requirements for the development of the data warehouse, then design and implement changes to meet these requirements.
As an organisation and team we aim to support each other and, as such, this role has a support component to it; both for the day-to-day operation and load of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and supporting the rest of the Data and Insights team with their data requirements.
Underpinning all this is that any work is undertaken in a secure and sustainable way. Data security is a key part of this role and maintenance of our collective knowledgebase is expected.
Principal Accountabilities
- To design, develop and maintain the data integration from multiple business systems.
- Work with the Data and Insights team to deliver the data strategy, that will inform the future of ICAS.
- Ensure that the business adheres to “best practice” in terms of data architecture and management.

Financial Accountant
Permanent, Full time

Background:
As ICAS continues its transformation journey the Finance department have also recently changed its operating model to a more strategically aligned business partner model. The aim therefore being to ensure Finance is set up in the best way possible to ensure the business meets its core strategic commercial objectives. This role is a new role within our new Finance structure.
The job:
The key purpose of this role is to support the Financial Controller in the provision of an efficient and effective accounting and finance transactional service to ICAS.
By supporting the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing effectiveness of financial transactions, approving payroll, processing and analysing journal entries, managing ledgers to ensure transaction postings and timely adjustments for reporting purposes.
Within the role you will also provide guidance to the Financial Accounting Team including driving development and modernisation, promoting robust internal controls and compliance.
Who do we need?
We are looking for an experienced accountant nearing or post-qualification or qualified by experience, with at least 3 years’ experience in a financial accounting role.
Working directly with the Financial Controller and wider finance team, we need a real team player to join our small, but high-functioning team.
You should be a clear, confident communicator and relationship builder. Someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in developing how we operate as a finance team.
You will be adept at improving transactional processes and internal controls and explaining these to those that need to know in simple and clear terms, ensuring that compliance and governance is understood and adhered to.
As well as great people skills, an ability to self-manage and motivate, plus an eye for seeing where improvements can be developed, you will bring with you an excellent knowledge of Excel and different finance systems, as well as a knowledge of VAT, payroll, and transactional environments.
There is ample opportunity in this role to streamline process, increase internal controls and focus on compliance to procedure and process to deliver key transactional finance activities.
The principal accountabilities of the role are detailed below:
*Help to supervise and guide the financial accounting and transactional team.
*Ensure accurate and compliant management of the ledgers and transactions.

Student Communications Project Manager
12-month fixed term, Full Time

What the job is:
This role is to lead the project to support our aspirations to deliver service excellence by enhancing our existing student communication approach, increasing our NPS satisfaction score which in turn will deliver an improved student experience at ICAS.
The project delivery lead will need to work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders, particularly ICAS colleagues in the member engagement, learning and customer experience teams, to create and deliver student communications, and champion the continuous improvement to the Student experience at ICAS.
The role will support both the continual improvement and learning transformation programmes as well as day to day communications.
Who we need:
This is a project delivery lead role focusing on the student communication strategy. Therefore, we need someone with a proven track record in project management ideally having worked in communication projects from start to finish.
As well as a practiced project manager, you should be passionate about student communications and be able to drive the project forward, putting our students at the heart of everything we do.
Ideally you will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Delivering projects for implementing business change.
- Identifying key processes and channels of communication to improve and implement change.
- Improving customer satisfaction by driving improvements in the creation, delivery, and impact of communications.
- Developing a customer end to end journey and identifying key touchpoints and engagement experiences.
- Embedding student personas to improve communications.
As project delivery lead you will be a key member of a small, specialist, self- organising project team and therefore should expect to roll your sleeves up and get involved in all aspects of the delivery.
Your project management knowledge and expertise will enable to you to work across all ICAS business centres, gathering information, defining requirements, and turning these into project priorities, and deliverables - laying out in layman’s terms the critical path to success.
You will be able to plan communications effectively using plain English and avoiding jargon, taking people with is key to your success, showing you are passionate about communicating well and delivering continual improvement.

Background:
This role within the ICAS Member Engagement & Communications team will connect, communicate with, engage and support a range of audiences, including our diverse Members, CA Students, the firms where they work and ICAS staff.
The Communications Executive will be responsible for creating a targeted, seamless and customer centric approach to the way we communicate with these audiences. This post will play a pivotal role in improving the satisfaction of ICAS’ stakeholders by driving improvements in the creation, delivery and impact of communications.
One area of focus for the Communications Executive will to deliver communications for and engage with our diverse 23,000 Members in the UK and around the world, and to improve their satisfaction.
Who do we need?
Ideally, we are looking for a communications ‘all-rounder’ with experience and skills in copywriting and content creation to meet business and communications objectives for varied target audiences and formats, including short and long-form content, thought leadership, blogs, emails and social media.
Experience in creating video and other multimedia content, including research, storyboarding, filming, interviewing, editing, post-production and distribution would also be very useful.
Educated to a degree level within Communications, you will be a dedicated, self-starting communications expert. Not only confident with the written word, you will be a clear and concise communicator, comfortable with presenting to stakeholders at all levels with an ability to adapt your style to ensure you take people with you.
Whilst able to work effectively and creatively on your own, relationship building and stakeholder management will be key to success in this role. Who do we need?

Within this role you will have accountability for raising awareness of the CA qualification, both B2B and B2C and driving engagement with existing members. We need someone therefore with expertise in planning and executing growth marketing strategies, creating, and delivering impactful initiatives from beginning to end.
You will have good knowledge of customer segmentation, and the value of data and insight. You will be experienced in customer journey mapping, email marketing automation, digital marketing knowledge and working with creative agencies.

Principle Accountabilities
- You will support the Senior Marketing Manager in delivering ICAS’ B2B and B2C acquisition strategy. This includes working closely with the Business Development team on developing a marketing plan for key audiences – schools, universities, graduates and training employers– showcasing the different routes of CA training available.
- Use insight and data to identify and understand audience needs, and create engaging, compelling and relevant content to support marketing campaigns and engagement activity.
- Plan and deliver high impact, successful, results oriented marketing campaigns supporting retention and engagement with existing ICAS Members and Students.
- Working with key internal stakeholders to help to deliver the wider ICAS strategy and to engage with Members across the portfolio of ICAS’ products and services.
- Involvement in the evolution of the CA Student communication journey, this includes setting up and delivering ‘test and learn’ strategies to ensure prospective students receive timely, accurate, relevant and personalised communications.
- As part of the brand marketing team, acting as a Brand Guardian, managing central ICAS design requests and being creative brand control.

Case Officer
Part Time job share - 21 hours per week

What the job is:
The investigations function of ICAS investigates and deals with complaints against ICAS Members and Firms. It is subject to strict oversight requirements, including KPIs relating to the timescales of investigations. To ensure that ICAS is best placed to complete investigations within such timescales, it is important that the team has the right balance of colleagues with both technical and legal skills.
The Case Officer plays a central role in the investigation of complaints received by ICAS against Members and Firms, with particular emphasis on complaints of a technical or legal nature, depending on whether the employee is a qualified accountant or a solicitor.
The Case Officer must ensure that complaints are dealt with in accordance with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), as varied from time to time. Focus shall be placed on the timescales of investigations, ensuring that complaints are determined without any unnecessary delays.
The Case Officer is responsible for many of the key procedural decisions taken over the course of an investigation. The ultimate decisions in an investigation (e.g. whether a Member is liable to disciplinary action) will generally be taken by members of the Investigation Committee with guidance from the Case Officer.
Who do we need?
We are looking for a Chartered Accountant with a general accountancy background, preferably with broad level experience including audit, tax and/ or insolvency. Alternatively, a solicitor with a current practising certificate who has experience in either regulatory, criminal, or civil law, as well as exposure to commercial contracts and/ or complaints work.
We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail and a naturally inquisitive nature. A person adept at handling cases with integrity and discretion, with an open mind and an ability to ask the right questions to uncover the detail within a case. Some cases may be very complex in nature, so also someone who has the tenacity and foresight to manage the case, and those impacted by it, to a clear and fair conclusion. As with any investigation role, ICAS work to set processes and are governed by regulations, adherence to which are of paramount importance.
The investigations team is a small team who work very closely together. Therefore, to be a successful addition to this team and to the job-share role, we need someone with a very collaborative nature, able to work well with others and fit into this team with ease, build effective relationships, and have a positive and open approach.
If the Case Officer is a qualified accountant, they will be expected to provide technical assistance to members of the Investigations Department who are not CAs. If the Case Officer is a solicitor, they will be expected to provide legal assistance to members of the Investigations Department who are not solicitors.
The Case Officer will also provide other assistance as may be required by the Investigations Assistant.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are also essential attributes to have. The Case Officer will be liaising and communicating with a broad range of individuals, dealing with a broad range of complaints and working with a wide spectrum of technical concerns which may take you out of your comfort zone.
Principal Accountabilities
- To investigate complaints received by ICAS in accordance with Rules, Regulations, internal protocols and any applicable KPIs.
- To progress applications for retention in or re-instatement to ICAS Membership in accordance with the provisions of the Retention and Re-instatement Regulations.
- To provide quality advice and assistance to individuals who submit queries through the ICAS Enquiries Helpline or web-portal.
- To provide quality technical or legal advice and assistance to members of the Investigations Department who are not qualified accountants / solicitors, to enable complaints received by ICAS to be investigated in accordance with Rules, Regulations, internal protocols and any applicable KPIs.
- To provide such assistance as may be requested by the Director of Investigations in connection with reviews of process, to ensure that complaints are handled as effectively and efficiently as possible.
- To aid members of the Investigation Committee throughout the investigations process to ensure that members consider complaints in accordance with Rules, Regulations, and internal protocols.
- To assist with educational needs which arise from the investigation of complaints – e.g. writing articles on complaint issues for the ICAS website, providing presentations to Members on complaint issues.

- responsibility for high-quality syllabus setting which supports the SCQF level 11 rating, comparable with master’s degree

- responsibility for building and implementing the AD course, with quality assurance to support improvements
- tutor delivery of course and supporting AD tutor team to ensure consistency with delivery across courses;

- supporting Students, providing advice and guidance on their approach to studying and learning technical material
The AD course enables Students to advise businesses on the effectiveness of their control environment. This includes control processes around data management which supports financial reporting and business decisions. Students will also be able to apply auditing and assurance standards and guidance in analytical and evidence collection techniques, allowing them to carry out a statutory audit, a non-statutory audit and other related engagements.

The role:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Facilities & Hospitality Assistant to join our team. Reporting to the Deputy Facilities Manager, this role will be responsible for providing support within our Facilities Department in Edinburgh, with some travel to our Glasgow site and other locations, as and when required.
This is a busy role where you will need to be able to effectively deal with a variety of planned and unplanned situations, providing prompt resolutions to queries and adapting quickly to changing priorities.
Who do we need?
We are looking for someone with experience of working in a busy Facilities environment. You should have excellent planning and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage your workload with minimal management guidance.
Ideally you would have experience of first aid, manual handling, fire prevention and food hygiene or be willing to undertake training.
You should be IT literate with experience of MS Office applications (Word, Excel etc). A driving licence is desirable.
