ICAS marks National Mentoring Day

25 October 2022

ICAS is marking National Mentoring Day by celebrating the benefits of mentoring and recognising the pivotal role a mentor can play in a Chartered Accountant’s professional success.

National Mentoring Day is celebrated globally every year on 27 October and marks a time to focus on sharing experiences and paying tribute to mentoring received or given. It provides an opportunity to recognise the invaluable contribution career mentoring makes to both business and society.

The important role of a mentor

Effective career mentoring can be as rewarding for mentors as it is for mentees. Becoming a mentor can help you expand your network, give you a fresh professional perspective and allow you to give something back to the profession.

Plus, guiding someone toward their desired career goals is a great means of developing your management and leadership skills. Providing guidance and support to a fellow CA can positively impact their career and provide you with personal satisfaction.

“Mentoring played a pivotal role in my early career and continues to do so today. It’s vital as it allows you to reflect and receive constructive challenge and feedback from a mentor with more expertise or lived experience.” Indy Singh Hothi CA, ICAS President

Boosting your confidence with the help of a mentor

Career mentoring can be valuable throughout your career, from your training contract into early post-qualified years and beyond as you ascend into managerial positions.

By signing up as a mentee, you’ll gain a trusted advisor who will empower and encourage you. Working with a mentor can help to get your career off the ground, take it to the next level or advance the development of a new project. Mentorship helps you gain new skills and connects you to a more established network. A mentor can offer you impartial advice, which can help you learn from their experience.

ICAS Career Mentoring programme

At ICAS, we strive to assist and inspire you through every stage of your professional life. This is why we established the ICAS Career Mentoring programme, to better support our Members’ development, both professionally and personally.

The ICAS Career Mentoring platform is designed to meet all your career mentoring needs, which you have access to as part of the programme. It combines a sophisticated mentor/mentee matching system with a straightforward sign-up process, matching you to the right mentor or mentee that best fits your needs. It easily connects prospective mentors and mentees, no matter where they are in the world, with the ability to message, set up and host either online or in-person meetings.

The ICAS Career Mentoring platform is available to ICAS Students (above the age of 18) and all ICAS Members at all stages of their careers.Find out more about mentoring in our dedicated career mentoring section which is linked below.
