Exploding the myths around what it takes to train a CA with ICAS

Image of trainee woman smiling

We dispel some of the myths around training a Chartered Accountant and explain why this way to invest in future success is open to organisations of all shapes and sizes.

Myth: It's expensive

Reality: It's actually great value

Training a CA can cost as little as £6,182, which is a great-value investment considering the many benefits your organisation will accrue in return.

Myth: Students are out of the office a lot

Reality: Flexible learning reduces classroom time

ICAS offers a programme of blended learning that allows greater flexibility as to when students are required in class. They can attend block training for a total of 13 weeks spread across their three-year contract: that’s less than 23 days per year.

Myth: It's only for accounting firms

Reality: A wide range of organisations train CAs

Many financial-services companies have integrated the ICAS CA qualification with their graduate schemes. There are training firms in the public sector, construction, energy and transport, and the range is constantly diversifying as more organisations see the value in training CAs.

Myth: It's only offered in Scotland

Reality: We train students UK wide

A significant proportion of the CA student intake is English based, with several major organisations choosing to exclusively train their accountancy graduates UK-wide with ICAS.

Myth: It's only offered by large organisations

Reality: Organisations of all sizes train ICAS CAs

The range of companies offering CA training across the UK is diverse, both in terms of size and sector. From one-partner accountancy firms, to niche start-ups and multinationals – they all recognise that training a CA is a valuable, cost-efficient way to upgrade their accounting and business capabilities.

Myth: It's only for organisations that already employ ICAS CAs

Reality: There’s no such requirement

Many organisations who don’t currently employ ICAS CAs have gained ATO status with us. The registration process is free, and all that’s required is a demonstration that the ICAS training standards can be met.
