Hamisha Mehta CA has been announced as the winner of the One Young CA 2019 award, as part of a global competition.

The announcement was made last night at an awards ceremony in London when the young and upcoming talent of the business and finance profession were celebrated.

ICAS Chief Executive Bruce Cartwright CA said: “This year, ICAS’ global competition recognised 100 young CAs for their extraordinary talent – those who have excelled in their field, who have pursued new and innovative career paths, and who have dedicated their time and passion to a worthy cause.

“I would like to congratulate every one of those on the list for their contribution and commitment to being a CA.”

Hamisha Mehta CA, Senior Commercial Financial Manager pladis, stood out as an inspiring role model for other young CAs due to her career success, enthusiasm and forward-thinking approach. Hamisha has taken an active role in helping to drive cultural change within her organisation through the Being Me initiative, aimed at promoting good mental health.

Hamisha will represent ICAS and the chartered accountancy profession at the One Young World Summit in London later this year. The summit brings together inspiring young people who are committed to making a positive difference.

Hamisha said:

“I’m incredibly honoured to win the One Young CA award. I hope that I can represent ICAS at the One Young World Summit and really show what the new generation of chartered accountants is about.

“Thank you to ICAS and also to my husband who’s been an amazing support and encouraged me to get involved with more things. This has allowed me to take my CA career to the next level.”

Hamisha, who is based in London, will represent ICAS and the chartered accountancy profession at the One Young World Summit in London later this year. The summit brings together inspiring young people who are committed to making a positive difference.

The 2019 category winners

The Top 100 Young CAs list for 2019 recognised CAs who excel in the areas of Technology, Trust and Talent. Winners in each of the three categories were also announced on Wednesday night.

In addition to winning the One Young CA award, Hamisha was named this year’s Top Young CA Talent winner. She said:

“Every CA demonstrates the Talent aspect of the CA Agenda, so winning this award is a huge honour. I hope my journey inspires other Young CAs to understand and expand their sphere of influence.”

Gareth Lewis CA
Gareth Lewis CA is the winner in the Technology category.

This year’s Technology winner, Gareth Lewis CA, is the Chief Executive and co-founder of Delio. Gareth said:

“Winning the Technology category at this year’s ICAS Top Young CAs awards is a great honour. Too often there is a risk of ignoring digital change out of fear, so to have organisations like ICAS recognise the role technology can play is very encouraging.

“At Delio, we continuously see how our technology helps a range of financial institutions connect with investors in the private markets in real-time. Our technology has become an efficient solution that helps some of the world’s biggest financial institutions do more for their high-net-worth clients, so to have my journey to date recognised by ICAS is incredible.

“As the financial services sector continues to thrive and embrace innovation, I am excited to see how we, as CAs, will grow with it in the next few years.”

Colleen Welsh CA is the winner in the Trust category.

Colleen Welsh CA, Business Solutions Senior at Johnston Carmichael, is this year’s Trust winner. She said:

“From being a young woman who thought that being a chartered accountant ‘wasn’t for people like me’ to being recognised by my institute and winning an award relating to such an important topic is nothing short of mind blowing.

“My whole career has been built upon being the best CA I can be – for my clients, my colleagues, and for myself – and this award makes that a reality for me. I’ve been lucky enough to have been surrounded by some of the best, most honest and genuine chartered accountants throughout my career and I truly believe it is thanks to them that I am where I am today!”
