Background:

Over 160 years of expertise and experience has contributed to the creation of our world-renowned CA qualification, so it’s no surprise that it is acclaimed globally and is renowned as a ‘gold standard’ in accountancy.

ICAS has trained many CAs since 1854 and in any given year around 3,000 Students are working with us to achieve the chartered goal.

We offer Students a route to success which is underpinned by external and independent oversight, audits, reviews and rigorous inspections, and given recognition from a range of accreditors.

Throughout everything we do, we act in the public interest and strive to build trust in the finance profession more generally. This ethos is enshrined in our internationally respected Code of Ethics which applies to all ICAS Members, CA Students and Member firms.

We regularly review the CA syllabus to ensure it remains relevant to the pace of change seen in global accountancy, and that it provides the skills and knowledge needed by the next generations of CAs to prepare them for unrelenting transformation. Recent updates include:

Financial Reporting

Ability to apply appropriate principles in accounting for transactions and events in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards.

Risk and Technology

Risks facing a business and advising on appropriate risk management strategies. The course provides an understanding of the concepts, methods and ideas affecting existing and emerging digital technologies.

Assurance and Data

To enable participants to advise businesses on the effectiveness of their control environment and control activities at the process level, including processes around data management to facilitate financial reporting and business decisions.

Business Tax

The course introduces key concepts of corporation tax and income tax in relation to trading profits and other forms of common business income.

Strategic Finance and Modelling

Includes core elements of modelling and forecasting and covers the areas of corporate finance and planning.
