CA magazine: December 20/January 21

By Sarah Speirs, ICAS Executive Director of Member Engagement and Communications

2 December 2020

Main points:

  • In this month's CA magazine ICAS President, Catherine Burnet, shares six ways to stay agile in 2021. We also hear from four CAs on the future of the food sector.
  • In our new series Meetings of the minds,  Bruce Pritchard CA and Sophie Baillie CA discuss finance professionals in pharma
  • Lord O’Neill of Gatley discusses the outlook for regional inequality and Drinks entrepreneur Lord Bilimoria shares why the CBI should champion SMEs as well as the FTSE 100

It is no overstatement to say 2020 has been a year like no other. Careful planning had to be replaced by quick, reactive thinking, often against the backdrop of transformed studies or living rooms.

And yet, despite the unprecedented disruption that the pandemic introduced, it has been inspiring to hear stories of resilience and innovation being demonstrated time and time again.

From speaking to ICAS members throughout this difficult year, as well as reading the pages of CA magazine, it has been evident that the skills and expertise of CAs have been crucial in the ability of businesses to navigate the stormy waters of 2020. In times of crisis, the importance of financial knowhow and trusted leadership is magnified, and CAs have shone as a result.

At ICAS, our goal is to ensure members are able to perform their best. We want to provide the resources and network that ensure you can tackle these challenging times confident you are being supported. That’s why we’ve decided to freeze membership fees for 2021 and introduce options to stagger payments across 12 months or in four instalments. Members facing particular hardship or who are taking a career break can also apply for a special waiver.

The message we hope to share is that, whatever circumstances you may find yourself in, ICAS is here to help. And with the tough times set to continue into the new year, we understand the critical importance of providing certainty and consistency to our members. The world might be turbulent at the moment, requiring the constant attention of financial professionals, but you can turn to ICAS for advice, support and community.

Please do stay in contact with ICAS and your local network of CAs as we enter 2021. We thrive on ongoing communication and dialogue with our members. It allows us to tailor and improve our services, reflecting your evolving needs and the constantly shifting business landscape. Our dedicated member platform CA Connect is the perfect place to share your thoughts and get in touch with fellow members. I hope to see you there.

Take care, stay safe and enjoy the holidays. As always, we hope you enjoy this issue of CA magazine.
