1 March 2022

Discover more about Finance+ EDI, a theme for ICAS throughout March as part of our new insight series for 2022, Finance+.

Throughout the month of March, we will be bringing you thought leadership, insight and practical guidance around the theme of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and exploring its impact on our profession today and in the future.

Finance+ EDI – what to expect

For March, we are shining a light on the role CAs can play as a force for positive change and as champions of EDI within their organisations and in wider society.

We will explore the key issues affecting accountancy and delve into the inclusive leadership which is vital to safeguard a pipeline of talent who will become the ethical business guardians of tomorrow.

In our Finance+ webinar, Psychological safety, the secret to good leadership, our panel of expert speakers - including Tracey Rob Perera CA, Start Up Business Mentor and Chair of the EDI Committee, and Holiday Phillips, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging consultant and coach - will share their personal leadership experiences and the practical steps they took to improve psychological safety in their workplaces.

To highlight International Women’s Day on 8 March, we will give a platform to the voices of female CAs from diverse backgrounds who are speaking up for gender equality. Our Championing Unique Perspectives content series features Samantha Frost CA, Director at Think Consulting, who discusses key actions that can help remove gender bias in the workplace, the power of mentoring and the pressure that’s placed on women to act as role models.

For the March installment of our podcast, Deputy President Indy Hothi CA will speak to Tara Cemlyn-Jones from 25x25 to illuminate the opportunities presented when we approach diversity as a data-driven practice.

Finance+ EDI – find more in CA magazine

In the March edition of the CA magazine – ICAS’ flagship thought leadership publication for CAs – you can find more EDI insight, perspective, inspiration and practical solutions featuring a range of experts from the accountancy field and beyond

ICAS CEO Bruce Cartwright CA shares the lessons he drew from his personal journey with EDI.

The experience of being challenged encourages us to look inward and really interrogate how our actions reflect our values.

In her editor’s letter, ICAS’ Executive Director of Member Engagement and Communications, Sarah Speirs, highlights why it’s vital for the profession to truly embrace the principles of EDI:

“For people to feel they truly belong in accountancy, they need to trust that the profession offers rewarding careers for all, regardless of background. To ensure its continuing health, we need to attract the brightest and best, especially at a time of labour shortages when employees have more choice than ever. To build that all-important trust, we must show that the profession is working to break down the stereotypes of old.”

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of all that ICAS does.

Google EMEA’s EDI lead Rukasana Bhaijee explains how our differences should unite rather than divide our workplaces.

When it comes to remuneration and compensation, finance leads should be asking questions about who's benefiting and who's missing out.

Tara Cemlyn-Jones, co-founder of 25x25, talks about her mission to deliver more female CEOs at FTSE firms.

Finance professionals will need to have access to human capital tracking tools, because they will be the metrics of success in the future.
