3 October 2022

Discover more about Finance+ EDI, a theme for ICAS throughout October as part of our Finance+ insight series.

Throughout the month of October, we will be bringing you thought leadership, insight and practical guidance around the theme of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and exploring its impact on our profession today and in the future.

Finance+ EDI – what to expect in October

For October, we’re highlighting the role of CAs as the champions of EDI within our organisations and the wider world.

We’re exploring the ways in which CAs can act as a force for positive change and increase the accessibility and diversity of the profession by upholding the values of inclusive leadership.

We will delve into the key issues affecting accountancy and explore the increased social mobility which is vital to safeguard a pipeline of talent who will become the ethical business guardians of tomorrow.

We are marking Black History Month by sharing stories from incredible CAs throughout the month. They reveal the diverse experiences and perspectives they have gained from working to create a better and more inclusive accountancy profession and society.

In our Finance+ webinar, Black professionals from varied business backgrounds impart insights that all CAs can action as allies, and share the lessons they have learned as advocates for equality when building inclusive businesses and enterprises.

We will also reveal details of the ICAS Black Member Network launching in October which will help deliver change by actioning the ambitions of ICAS’ Black Talent Action Plan.

Finance+ is joined for the EDI theme by Jason Harvie CA, Investment Director - Private Equity at Penta Capital, ICAS Council member and Chair of the ICAS London Area Network, to discuss the business benefits of cognitive diversity and how teams can set about fostering it.

In addition, to help put you in the bigger picture, there will be more insight, perspective, inspiration and practical solution featuring a range of experts from the accountancy field and beyond.

Finance+ EDI – find more in CA magazine

In the October edition of the CA magazine – ICAS’ flagship thought leadership publication for CAs – you can find more EDI insight, perspective, inspiration and practical solutions featuring a range of experts from the accountancy field and beyond.

Baron Simon Woolley, founder of Operation Black Vote, talks about his life and career and speaks passionately about how business can do better at addressing EDI.

Buki Ishola CA, Executive and Career Advancement Coach, recounts her own experience in the world of accountancy, being aware of how different she was from her colleagues and how that briefly dented her confidence.

Organisations and individuals have in-built bias, conscious and unconscious, which means people are often automatically overlooked because of their physical appearance. In turn, they miss out on working with the best talent. Jim Robertson CA shares insight on the reality of unconscious bias and how it affects us all.

In his October President’s letter, ICAS President Indy Singh Hothi CA discusses the role of inclusion in boosting social mobility for all and ‘taking everyone on the journey’.
