Extending the qualification clock for 2024
We’re giving students whose qualification clock has or is due to expire in 2024 more time to complete the CA qualification.
Last year we replaced the subject-specific assessment clock with the new 7-year qualification clock and lifted the rule that classified students as ‘inactive’ if they had been out of a training contract for more than two years.
7-year qualification clock
The 7-year qualification clock begins at the start of a student’s training contract.
In this time, they must complete the syllabus and relevant practical experience (RPE) requirements of the CA qualification.
If they don’t complete all the requirements before their qualification clock expires, they can request an extension through a written request to ICAS (section 10.2 of the student handbook).
Complete the CA qualification by 31 December 2024
We recognise that this change may affect students who are on track to complete the qualification in 2024 but may be facing their qualification clock expiring before they’re able to complete the final requirements.
We’re giving students up to and including 31 December 2024 to complete any final assessments or RPE requirements.
If the student is on track to complete all the requirements by 31 December 2024, they don’t need to submit a request.
Requesting an extension
If a student’s qualification clock has or is due to expire in 2024, and they won’t complete the CA qualification requirements until after 31 December 2024, they need to contact students@icas.com for more information.
