Event summary

Learning outcomes

  • Understand where firms are getting cyber governance wrong and why these gaps persist.
  • Learn how cyber incidents unfold in practice, from initial compromise through to response.

  • Clarify the role leadership must play before, during and after a breach.
  • Explore how AI is increasing risk across and day-to-day operations.

A year on from the introduction of the Cyber Governance Code of Practice, many firms are still falling short - with gaps in oversight, unclear ownership, and an over-reliance on IT creating a false sense of security.

In this fireside chat, Kerrie Machin, Director at Mitigo - ICAS’ trusted cyber risk management partner - will join ICAS’ Director of Practice, David Menzies CA to explore how cyber incidents actually unfold, where governance breaks down in practice, and what firms should be doing differently.

Using real-world examples, the session will cover common failings, incident response, and why plans that look robust on paper often fail when tested. We'll also touch on emerging risks, including AI and data security, and how these are increasing exposure across firms.
