Bruce Cartwright CA to step down as ICAS CEO in April 2026

At the recent meeting of ICAS Council in London on 29 May, Bruce Cartwright CA announced his intention to step down as Chief Executive of ICAS in April 2026.

He became CEO of ICAS in March 2018. He is currently also Chair of the Global Accounting Alliance (GAA), Director of Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW), Director of CCAB and a Technical Adviser to the IFAC Board.

Bruce qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 with PwC. He spent most of his professional career in PwC’s restructuring team and was Partner and Head of their Scottish Corporate Restructuring practice from 2001-2016.

Commenting on his announcement, Bruce said: “After eight years, I feel the time is right for me to move on from my role and pass the baton onto a new CEO. My time as CEO will undoubtedly remain with me as a highlight in my career. It has been both a privilege and an honour to lead ICAS over this period.

“During my time as CEO, ICAS has transformed into a modern, future-facing professional body with a strong strategy and a bright future for it and its 24,000 members. Doing the right thing, acting in the public interest and bringing ethical leadership firmly to the front of our DNA have allowed us to build this future.”

Recruiting a new CEO

Over the course of the next few months, the ICAS Office Bearers, including President Karen Scholes CA, and members of ICAS Council will begin the recruitment process for the next CEO.
