I'm Monica Grey. I'm an Audit Assistant at AAB.

Monica is studying towards the CA qualification alongside her role at AAB. She shares what her experience has been like so far, the variety of working in audit and her advice for anyone considering a career in accountancy.

What made you decide to train as a CA?

When I was at school, I studied accounting at National 5 and Higher level before going to university.

Once I was on placement, I saw that everyone was training to become a CA, and I realised how many opportunities the qualification could open up for me.

What do you enjoy most about working in audit?

Every day is different. I'm often working on different jobs, sometimes for a week, two weeks or even a month.

It's not just sitting at a desk crunching numbers. You're speaking to clients, working face to face and meeting lots of new people all the time.

What advice would you give someone considering a career in accountancy?

Don't be nervous, because it can seem like a long road when you're just starting out.

That time is going to pass anyway, so you might as well do something meaningful that helps you develop. The CA qualification is something you're doing for yourself, so get stuck in and do it.
