I'm Emma Wilson. I'm a CA student and Semi-Senior Analyst at Hall Morrice.
Emma shares what inspired her to pursue a career in accountancy, how she's applying what she learns through ICAS and the opportunities the CA qualification can offer.
What made you choose a career in accountancy?
It's something that clicked with me when I was in third year at secondary school. I liked the numbers and the problem-solving, and after doing some work experience, I realised it was something I really enjoyed.
I also like the communication side of it. A lot of people think accountancy is just sitting at a desk looking at spreadsheets, but it's so much more than that. You're talking to clients and working with your team every day.
How do you apply what you learn through ICAS in your day-to-day role?
I work across accounts and audit, so there's a lot of crossover between what I learn in the accounting modules and what I do every day.
You're applying that knowledge in practice, and it helps you understand why you're doing things a certain way, whether that's posting journals or preparing accounts.
Where do you think the CA qualification could take you?
Anywhere! It's such a big achievement to have. I've got family friends who are CAs and now live in Australia.
Having those two letters next to your name opens so many doors.
