Views sought on speeding up SME tax payments

Business Meeting on iPad
By Philip McNeill, Head of Taxation (Practice and Small Business)

25 January 2016

Have your say on paying tax sooner – for small and medium sized businesses.

HMRC is looking for member’s opinions on ‘Simpler Payments’. This is part of the Government’s Making Tax Digital agenda.

HMRC is keen to speak to members in practice and businesses about the proposals to speed up the payment of tax for small and medium sized businesses to bring payment and reporting more closely into ‘real-time’.

Discussion will centre around proposals for quarterly reporting of business results and more frequent payment of tax. ICAS sees some significant challenges ahead and will be engaging directly with HMRC to influence policy in this area.

The current opportunity is for HMRC facilitated discussions – expected to last around two hours.

There are a number of offered locations across the UK, including:

  • Edinburgh – 11 February 2016
  • Glasgow – 10 February 2016
