Consultation on Natural Capital Protocol launched

By Anne Adrain, ICAS Assistant Director Sustainability and Assurance

26 November 2015

Edinburgh was the centre for all things related to Natural Capital last week.

With the World Forum on Natural Capital taking place on 23 and 24 November, it was fitting that the Natural Capital Coalition should choose this time to launch the consultation process on the draft Natural Capital Protocol.

The draft Protocol, and the accompanying Sector Guides, were developed by the Coalition into a standardised framework to help business measure and value its impacts and dependencies on natural capital thereby enabling them to include these measurements and values into their decision-making process.

The consultation process is an important part of the Protocol’s development. As well as engaging with the growing Coalition membership, which has doubled in the last six months and now stands at 168 organisations, the Coalition is establishing an expert review panel, to lead the consultation, build consensus and gain market momentum.

The consultation period will run until 26 February 2016. Consultation responses will inform and enable further development of the Protocol prior to the anticipated launch of Version 1 in July 2016.

To find out more about the consultation, and to participate in the process, please visit the dedicated Natural Capital webpage.
