Gareth Lewis, Chief Executive and Co-Founder of Delio and 2019 Top Young CAs technology category winner, chats to ICAS about why he’s proud to be a CA and how CAs can help new businesses succeed.
Gareth co-founded Cardiff-based fintech company, Delio, in 2015. The company which supports financial institutions in transforming their private markets offering is one of the UK’s top twenty fintech companies to watch. Delio works with a range of financial institutions across the UK, Continental Europe, North America and Asia Pacific - from wealth managers and angel networks to family offices and private banks.
Gareth argues that the knowledge CAs obtain leads to information-based decision making and provides structure - something that is essential within any industry.
“This is especially the case in terms of start-ups and scale-ups, where CAs can play a fundamental role in helping new businesses succeed and grow. I always consider the role of a CA as one that is built on trust, reliability and integrity. These characteristics and their impact are invaluable - not just within the business environment, but also within society,” he adds.
Gareth graduated as a CA in 2014 while working with EY and Convex Capital and believes that the qualification’s wealth of skills and expertise allow CAs to work in a wide range of companies.
Gareth said: “The skills you obtain as a CA are diverse and, because of that, opportunities can appear from any corner. I think a CA’s skillset is particularly attractive within a commercial and operational setting. It provides a solid footing for business success and, because of that, offers unlimited opportunities.”
One of the main things that makes Gareth proud to be a CA is the industry itself. CAs have adapted to the changing business environment to provide the best service possible.
“I am thrilled to be part of this community, where people go beyond the traditional boundaries associated with being a CA. Today’s CAs are very different from the traditional stereotype, and it is exciting to see how the role has developed. We are part of a diverse community filled with individuals who are making their mark in various industries. It is an excellent network, with a global collective at its heart,” Gareth explains.
