ICAS Discipline Board – reporting requirements

Internal reporting by the Discipline Board

ICAS’ General Regulations require the Discipline Board to report to Council, on an annual basis.

The annual report to Council includes the following information:

  • Statements from the Chair and a Lay Member.
  • Governance information (e.g. current membership).
  • Key strategy and priorities in discipline.
  • Statistical information about disciplinary activities and independent examinations.
  • Risk analysis.
  • Key priorities for the coming year.
  • Board Evaluation Report

From 2020 onwards, the annual report to Council will be published on the ICAS website.

Internal reporting to the Discipline Board

At each meeting of the Discipline Board, it receives and discusses reports in respect of cases recently determined by Discipline or Appeal Tribunals. This allows the Discipline Board to monitor whether there are issues that may need to be addressed to improve the disciplinary processes (e.g. through additional guidance, or amendments to the Regulations).

On an annual basis, the Chair of the Independent Examiners Panel submits a report to the Discipline Board which summarises any independent examinations which have been undertaken in the calendar year. The report will also specify any aspects of ICAS’ investigation process which the Independent Examiner Panel considers could be improved.

Self-evaluation

The Discipline Board undertakes a self-evaluation exercise every year. This allows for a robust assessment of the effectiveness and impact of the Discipline Board. The feedback is used by the Discipline Board and Council to ensure that the Discipline Board is fulfilling its remit under the General Regulations, with appropriate follow-up action taken on areas of improvement.
