In November 2015 ICAS launched its ‘The Power of One’ campaign, aiming to help re-establish ethics at the core of business practices and rebuild public trust in business. 

Through their ethical behaviour, CAs are a force for good in the organisations in which they work. They can also influence those around them, and thereby help shape the culture and values of their organisation. 

The cumulative effect of CA influence can help reinforce the importance of ethics at the core of business practices, including a more responsible and holistic approach to business. In this way, CAs are a key component of building public trust in business, to the benefit of our broader society. 

Ethics has always been at the heart of what a Chartered Accountant is all about, just as the word ethical has CA at its heart – ethiCAl. Let’s spread the word together…

Ken McHattie

Ken McHattie

ICAS President

Ken is Chair of onshore energy company Aurora Petroleum and ICAS President 2016, having served for a number of years on the Council of ICAS and as Vice-President and Deputy President.

Ken qualified as a CA with Thomson McLintock in Aberdeen in 1978, and as a solicitor in 1985. He worked for venture capitalists 3i before becoming a partner in the Aberdeen law firm, Ledingham Chalmers.

Ken worked for service company Atlantic Power as Group Company Secretary and was a founder of North Sea Operator Tuscan Energy. He joined Energy Development Partners Limited, the manager of a significant oil and gas investment fund, as Finance Director in 2005, and worked there until mid-2010, before helping to establish Aurora.

Don Macleod

Don Macleod

Don Macleod was Chairman, CEO and President of National Semiconductor Corporation, a Silicon Valley based semiconductor company, prior to its acquisition in 2011 by Texas Instruments for $6.5bn. He was appointed CEO in 2009 and Chairman of the Board in 2010.

Prior to his appointment as CEO, he held the position of COO for four years and before that served as Chief Financial Officer for ten years.

He previously worked for KPMG , the international accounting firm.

A native of Scotland, he holds both a BSc degree in economics and an honorary doctor of the university degree from the University of Stirling in Scotland .

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

He currently holds board positions in Scotland with Entrepreneurial Scotland and mLED Ltd, a technology start-up , spun out of the University of Strathclyde.

He was a board member of the International Advisory Board of Scottish Enterprise, a public agency, from 2003 until its disbandment in 2009

In the USA, he is currently a board member of three public technology companies, Broadcom Ltd,Knowles Electronics and Intersil Corporation, where he is currently also chairman of the board.

His public service activities include a current trustee position with the Saltire Foundation (USA), and past board memberships of the Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation, from 1999 until 2010 and from 1993 until 1999, he was a board trustee and eventually chairman on the Financial Executives Research Foundation, a research foundation of Financial Executives International.
