Business Acumen and Business Law - transition to new syllabus

TC Business Law and Business Acumen deadline – 31 August
We are currently in the process of moving towards our new syllabus, which begins in September 2020.
Under the old syllabus, your CA students could delay test of competence (TC) Business Law until after TPS – it just needed to be completed before TPE. However, as TC Business Law will cease on 31 August 2020, any of your CA students who only have TC Business Law to complete (i.e. those who have passed all other five TC subjects, or those who had exemptions) must complete Business Law by our 31 August 2020 deadline in order to avoid being caught in transition.
Any of your CA students sitting TPS exams in June can sit Business Law afterwards, but it must be completed by 31 August 2020.
You may also have students that have not completed TC Business Acumen (previously TC Business Management). Due to the extent of the changes to this subject in the new syllabus, any of your CA students who still have to complete TC Business Acumen (previously TC Business Management) must do so by our 31 August 2020 deadline in order to avoid being caught in transition.
We are encouraging CA students to ask their firm about the detail of their specific policy, and we are also encouraging those students who have more TC subjects to complete to get in touch with us (please email jljones@icas.com) to agree a bespoke pathway.
Most school leavers (from the 2019 intake) should be following this agreed pathway:
- FA and PAR to Dec 2019
- BA and BL before Aug 2020
- POT to Oct 2020
- FIN to Dec 2020
(EY school leavers may be following a slightly different route.)
School leavers from earlier intakes should aim to complete TC by 31 August 2020.
We are currently in contact with firms to discuss these matters, but if you have any questions, please get in touch with Joanne Lloyd-Jones.
