ICAS CA International Pathways: ICAS-USA Pathway

The Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between ICAS and its American counterpart provides a streamlined pathway for Certified Public Accountants in the USA to gain the CA designation and UK audit rights.

The MRA simplifies the process and reduces the examination requirements for eligible CPAs to become ICAS Chartered Accountants (CAs). This agreement has been approved by ICAS, NASBA and AICPA.

Steps to become a CPA through the UK Pathway

  • Pass one exam – the International Qualification Exam (IQEX)
  • Apply to the State Board and satisfy their requirements

Am I eligible?

You must be an ICAS member in good standing and have completed:

  • An undergraduate degree
  • TPS and TPE classes and exams
  • Two years post-admission relevant practical work experience

Steps to become a CA through the USA Pathway

  • Pass one exam – the International Qualification Exam (IQEX)
  • Complete a two-year training contract
  • Gain requisite UK audit experience

Am I eligible?

You must be a licensed CPA in good standing with a State Board and have completed:

  • An undergraduate degree
  • The Uniform CPA Exam
  • US State law experience requirements for licensure
  • Two years post-admission practical work experience and ICAS non-technical competency logging
