The ICAS winner of the Grand National
ICAS Member, Colin Dempster CA, who is a Partner with EY is celebrating winning the Grand National.
Colin (first left) got to lift the Grand National trophy on Saturday as his partner Debs Thomson is one of the two owners, who go under the syndicate name of “Two Golf Widows”.
Their horse “One for Arthur” took the world’s most famous steeplechase with a late run to win the £561,000 first prize.
Trained by Lucinda Russell at Kinross, north of Edinburgh, the horse is only the second Scottish winner of the race.
Colin is a partner with EY working in Transaction Advisory Services and has led the Scottish restructuring practice since 2002.
He was also chair of the ICAS Insolvency Conference for several years.
Colin is not, however, the first CA to be closely connected to a Grand National winner.
David Whitaker CA and his wife Fiona owned Lucius which won the 1978 race.
Whitaker, who was also a senior partner with EY in Edinburgh went on to become Chairman of Perth Racecourse, but unfortunately died in 2016.
