The highest paying companies in the US: 2016
Tech and consulting companies dominate the top 10 list of the highest paying companies in the US, according to a new report.
The banking and finance industry narrowly miss out on the top 10, with Visa placing at number 11 out of the top 25.
The list was put together by jobs and recruiting site Glassdoor, and shows that US consultancy company A. T. Kearney pays an average base salary of $143,620 which rises to an average of $167,534 after bonuses and/or commission is added.
Another consulting company placed second, with PwC firm Strategy& offering an average combined salary and compensation of $160,000.
“Salaries are sky-high at consulting companies due to ‘barriers of entry’ in this field, which refers to employers wanting top consultants to have personal contacts, reputations and specialized skills and knowledge,” said Dr Andrew Chamberlain, chief economist at Glassdoor.
The highest paying US companies
|Company||Industry||Median Compensation||Median Base Salary|
|A. T. Kearney||Consulting||$167,534||$143,620|
|McKinsey & Company||Consulting||$155,000||$135,000|
|Boston Consulting Group||Consulting||$150,020||$147,000|
|Cadence Design Systems||Tech||$150,010||$140,000|
Six out of the 10 companies on the list are from the tech industry, which Andrew says shows that “high pay continues to be tied to in-demand skills and higher education”.
Although a high rate of pay is a factor in long-term employee satisfaction, it is not viewed as a priority, the report said.
Culture, values, career opportunities, and confidence in senior leadership are the biggest drivers of long-term employee satisfaction.
