Tom McCallum to head to Cayman Island firm

Tom McCallum CA has been named CEO of Shirlaws Business Coaching, the largest business line within Shirlaws Group. McCallum moved to the Cayman Islands on qualifying as a CA in 1989, becoming group commercial director for a family-owned group of international businesses and then running his own international advisory firm. He said: "I'm excited to be taking the helm at Shirlaws at a time of radical global expansion and change."

Szwed takes on consultancy role

Accounting, consulting and recruitment firm Hutcheon Mearns, has appointed Julita Szwed CA as a senior consultant. Szwed completed her training with KPMG in 2013 and has held group finance manager positions in oil and gas companies Reservoir Group and LR Senergy.  Welcoming her new appointment, Szwed said: "The structure of the business provides the team with a great variety of assignments where we are really helping our clients and that gives us an enormous sense of satisfaction."

Grant Thornton recruits Chopra

Grant Thornton has named Vishal Chopra CA as tax partner for Scotland. He joined the firm in 2012, following 10 years with PwC, and has spent the past three years leading the tax team, advising clients in business tax, covering corporate and personal, domestic and international. Chopra will be responsible for overseeing the Scottish team as it aims to double its size over the next five years. Kevin Engel, Grant Thornton's managing partner in Scotland, said: "Vishal has demonstrated outstanding levels of leadership and expertise."

PwC appoint new equity partners

PwC has expanded its Scottish team with the appointment of three equity partners. Alison Fleming joins the firm's Edinburgh office, while Jon Shelley and Bruce Collins CA will be based in Aberdeen. Collins joined the firm in 1998 as a graduate and, following periods in Glasgow, Melbourne and London, joined the Aberdeen assurance team in 2012. He has worked with clients in the oil and gas industry for the past 11 years.

Jim Coyle CA: HSBC Bank plc

Jim Coyle CA has joined the board of HSBC Bank plc as a non-executive director and as a member of the audit committee and the risk committee. Coyle is an ICAS Council member and the former group financial controller of Lloyds Banking Group. He is also a non-executive director with the Scottish Building Society and at the Financial Reporting Council.

Neil Mitchell: NM Advisory

Former Mazars tax partner Neil Mitchell has set up an independent tax advisory and compliance practice for corporates and private clients, NM Advisory, based in Edinburgh. Mitchell is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, with more than 25 years' experience of providing tax support and planning.

Record number of graduates at Hall Morrice

Aberdeen-based Hall Morrice has recruited a record number of graduates to its ranks. Joining the firm are Jonny Henry, Aileen Rollo, Sarah McDonald, Peter Cowan and Chris Stout. They will also be working alongside Robert Gordon University placement students Kelsey Simpson and Sharon McRuvie.

Mike Harkness: Scott-Moncrieff

Scott-Moncrieff has announced the appointment of Mike Harkness as partner. Harkness has been with the firm for nine years and is an audit specialist with particular expertise in charities, independent schools, technology and life sciences.

Sarah Donn CA: Bancon Group

Aberdeenshire housebuilder Bancon Group has named Sarah Donn CA as its new finance director. She joins the construction company from Stewart Milne Group where she was divisional accountant. Donn began her career with KPMG as a graduate audit assistant in 2009, before becoming an audit assistant manager in 2012.

Gemma Spiers: Johnston Carmichael

Johnston Carmichael has recruited Gemma Spiers as its marketing director, based in the firm's Edinburgh office. Spiers was previously Deloitte's marketing strategy lead for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Jeff Wong: EY

EY has appointed Jeff Wong as its global chief innovation officer. He joins from eBay Inc, where he was senior director of eBay's business incubation group.

Isobel Sharp CA: IMI plc

Global engineering business IMI plc has appointed Isobel Sharp CA as a non-executive diretcor and member of the audit committee. She is a past president of ICAS and former senior technical partner, UK, with Deloitte, and is a visiting professor in corporate governance and auditing with the University of Edinburgh.

Mark Cornish CA: PwC

Mark Cornish CA has been appointed as a risk assurance partner with PwC, based in Philadelphia. He was previously a director with PwC's Philadelphia practice.

Gavin Hood CA: Deloitte

Deloitte has appointed Gavin Hood CA to lead its advisory corporate finance practice in Scotland. Hood has been a partner with Deloitte since 2006. He steps into his new role following the recent retirement of the firm's Scottish senior partner, Ian Steele CA.

Judith Howson: French Duncan

French Duncan has appointed Judith Howson, former assistant director at Deloitte, as a senior manager in the Business Recovery and Insolvency Services department, based at the firm's Hamilton office.
