Nominations for the ICAS 35 CAs under 35 list and 2016 One Young CA award close at midnight tonight.

This is your final chance to submit an entry to the prestigious competition which, this year, has had more than double the number of submissions than in 2015.

The top 35 nominated CAs will be honoured in a highly publicised list set for publication in July.

Four exceptional candidates will also be named as the winners of each nomination category and will make up the shortlist for crowning One Young CA 2016.

The Categories

The categories are intended to isolate the qualities that ICAS values and take into account the different ways young CAs are making their mark.

  • Entrepreneurship: We are looking for entrants who demonstrate real entrepreneurial spirit. Whether that’s by making a success of a new business idea or venture, working for a successful start-up or working on entrepreneurial initiatives outside your normal job.
  • Leadership: We’ll be looking for strong evidence of your ability to successfully lead others. You might have helped manage significant change in your organisation, or perhaps you’ve faced career set-backs that you’ve successfully overcome.
  • Sustainability & CSR: We’re looking for CAs who are committed to using their skills and expertise for the greater good. You might be involved in championing sustainability or CSR issues within your organisation, or working to build links between the business world and communities at a local or global level.
  • Influence & Innovation: We’ll be looking for entrants who, through their work, are influencing the way CAs are perceived across the business world. Perhaps you’ve made significant changes to your business which are having a wider impact, or you are redefining what it means to be an accountant in today’s fast-paced business world.

We have heard from last year's noted candidates about how young CAs can use these values to affect change.

The Prizes

All 35 finalists will receive a free place at the flagship ICAS conference in September 2016 and the full benefits of a mentor in Career Connect - the ICAS Career Mentoring Programme.

The four CAs who top each nomination category will be awarded prizes including a voucher for BPP/ICAS training courses and a coveted seat at the CA dinner in either London or Edinburgh.

The overall winner of the 35 CAs Under 35 awards will be named this year's One Young CA and will represent ICAS at the prestigious One Young World Summit in Ottawa, Canada. The summit is an international conference that brings together the brightest young leaders from around the world, empowering them to make lasting connections and create positive change.

One Young World Founder Kate Robertson spoke to CA Today about the importance of the Summit and the ICAS presence there as part of the Chartered Accountants Worldwide delegation.

The Judges

The judges for this year’s One Young CA competition include a range of talent and experience from the worlds of business, finance and the not-for-profit sector.

They include former One Young CA winner Indy Hothi CA, ICAS Foundation mentor Natalie Bretherick CA and the Founder of Accounting for International Development, Neil Jennings among others.

How to enter

Entries to the 35 CAs Under 35 awards can be made through the One Young CA website.

All ICAS CAs under 35 are eligible to enter the competition. CAs can nominate themselves (or others) to be recognised as a top CA under 35. Both CAs and non-CAs can nominate.

If you or a CA you know should definitely be in the running, submit your nomination by midnight on 27 May 2016.
