Top financial role at Kirk for Anne Macintosh CA

Anne Macintosh CA has been appointed General Treasurer of the Church of Scotland.

Anne has held a number of senior positions at the Kirk since joining in 2000. For the last seven years she served as Deputy General Treasurer and was acting General Treasurer on the retirement of Iain Grimmond.

She is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde, where she studied Business Administration and trained for her CA qualification with Ernst and Whinney in Glasgow before moving on to industry and the public sector.

Anne said: “It’s a huge privilege to take on this challenging role where I have the opportunity to build on past achievements. I am pleased and excited to be part of a senior management team that is taking the Church forward through a period of significant change.”

Simon Burke CASimon Burke CA group commercial director at Legal & General

Legal & General Group Plc, has appointed Simon Burke CA as Group Commercial Director.

Simon has assumed responsibility for M&A, procurement and location strategy across the FTSE 100 company.

He trained in Scotland before joining Standard Life as Head of Tax in 2004 and moved to Legal & General in 2008 as Group Tax Director.

Stephen ThomStephen Thom steps into new head of corporate tax role

Stephen Thom has been appointed to the newly created position of Head of Corporate Tax, Glasgow, at French Duncan.

Stephen’s previous experience includes his work at Grant Thornton in Glasgow and in the tax advisory team at Lloyds Banking Group in Edinburgh. He was also in the corporate tax team at BDO’s London office, where he qualified as a chartered accountant via the trainee programme.

Graeme Finnie, French Duncan Managing Partner, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Stephen to our tax team in Glasgow. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked on a range of advisory projects with large corporate groups and specialising in international and financial services tax.”

David ClaytonDavid Clayton CA, new CFO at Aviva Investors

David Clayton CA has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of Aviva Investors, the global asset management arm of Aviva plc.

As part of the executive team, David will report to Euan Munro, Chief Executive Officer of Aviva Investors, and also to Tom Stoddard, Group Chief Financial Officer of Aviva.

David has more than 30 years’ experience in financial services and previously held senior roles at Standard Life plc. He is also a former partner at PwC where he worked in the UK and Australia.

He is Chairman of the Scottish-based international charity Mary’s Meals.

Vivien KylesVivien Kyles CA joins British Horseracing Authority Board

Vivien Kyles CA, CEO of Hamilton Park Racecourse, has joined the Board of the  British Horseracing Authority (BHA).

Vivien replaces Arena Racing Company Chairman David Thorpe as the Racecourse Association’s Member Nominee Director.

Vivien was appointed CEO at Hamilton Park in 2008 and prior to this she was part owner and CEO of Livingston Football Club. She also sat on the Scottish Football League Management Committee.

BHA Chairman Steve Harman said: “For a long time we have been keen to have Vivien on the Board as she brings with her much business, finance and racing experience, as well as a passion and focus which matches well with the current stage of our industry’s journey.”

Rachel EngwellSenior practice appointments at Grant Thornton

Grant Thornton has announced three senior appointments to its Yorkshire practice.

Rachel Engwell CA joins as a partner in tax, Dan Rosinke joins as a partner in transaction advisory services and Martin Barron as a partner in recovery and reorganisation.

Rachel joins Grant Thornton from EY, where she trained.  Dan was previously at  Yorkshire Bank, where he was head of specialist and acquisition finance for east England. Martin has moved from Deloitte in Yorkshire.

Andy Wood, practice leader for Grant Thornton in Leeds, said: "These latest partner appointments will support our continued ambitious plans in the region, helping us to cement our position as the go-to firm for growth for dynamic businesses.”

Barrie WestBarrie West CA to grow Alpha FMC Edinburgh team

Alpha Financial Markets Consulting (Alpha FMC) has promoted Barrie West CA to Principle in its Edinburgh team as part of its expansion strategy.

Barrie, who has been with the firm for eight years, will be responsible for growing its “Scottish footprint”. He trained with Campbell & Co Chartered Accountants before joining EY and then Purple Patch Wireless as a Finance Director.

Alpha FMC Global CEO Euan Fraser said: “His particular expertise in operating model design, execution and outsourced service delivery will prove extremely beneficial to our Scottish clients.”

Euan FerriesEuan Ferries CA joins Martin Aitken & Co

Glasgow-based chartered accountants and business advisers Martin Aitken & Co have appointed Euan Ferries CA to lead their Corporate Advisory Team.

The firm said Euan’s experience in advising clients on acquisitions and disposals, due diligence, valuations and securing funding for expansion, would blend in well with the current team.

Managing Director Ewen Dyer said: ““Euan’s experience will dovetail extremely well with our existing advisory and corporate tax team members’ skills. He has considerable knowledge of Scottish commercial markets and this will help us to continue developing our portfolio of work assisting owner-managed, family run and entrepreneurial business clients.”

Jaguar Growth Partners appoints Ian Wilkin CA as CFO and COO

Jaguar Growth Partners has announced the appointment of Ian Wilkin CA as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer.

Gary Garrabrant, Managing Partner at the US real estate and private equity firm, said: “Ian's experience, knowledge and operations skills will have a significant benefit for our investments and clients across the globe.”

Before joining Jaguar, Ian’s other roles included Head of Decision Support for Real Estate & Infrastructure at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), and EY in the UK, where he led a number of global accounting and advisory engagements.

Ian also worked as Interim Finance Director of a not-for-profit hospital in Malawi, East Africa where he was responsible for restructuring the financial control function.

Jaguar said Ian will also join its Investment Committee.

David NishDavid Nish CA

David Nish CA and Jeffrey Hayman have been elected to the board of Zurich Insurance Group for a 12 month term, the company said.

David, the former CEO of Standard Life, is a non-executive director of London Stock Exchange Group plc, Vodafone Group plc and UK Green Investment Bank.

Jeffrey is an independent consultant and advisor who has held a range of roles at Travelers Companies in the US and AIG.

Board chair and CEO ad interim of Zurich, Tom de Swaan, said: "We are delighted that Jeffrey Hayman and David Nish have accepted our nomination to join the Zurich Board. Thanks to their profound knowledge of the insurance industry and their experience in two of the most important markets globally, they would ideally complement our Board."

Peter Bole CA moves from Tesco Bank to Virgin Money

Virgin Money has announced two appointments to its senior executive team, with Peter Bole CA joining as chief financial officer and Hugh Chater as chief commercial officer.

Peter joins from Tesco Bank, where he has been leading the finance function, and is expected to start in his new role in 2017. He started his career as a CA with Scott-Moncrieff in Edinburgh, where he qualified before moving to work in corporate finance with Deloitte.

From Deloitte he moved to Standard Life's private equity arm and then to RBS, initially in corporate finance, insurance and then banking. He moved to Tesco Bank after it bought out the RBS share in their partnership in 2008.

Hugh, who is currently in the retail private banking division of RBS, is due to commence as chief commercial officer by June 2016.

Maureen PenfoldMaureen Penfold new Managing Partner at Kingston Smith

Kingston Smith has appointed Maureen Penfold as Managing Partner from January 2016.

Maureen, who is a chartered accountant and general practitioner with over 30 years’ experience, is taking over from Julie Walsh, who is stepping down prior to retirement.

Naeem Akhtar Sheikh appointed SAFA President

Naeem Akhtar Sheikh, the former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), has been appointed president of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA for 2016.

He served as vice-president of SAFA last year and as committee chairman of the government Virtual Knowledge and Training Centre (VKTC) SAFA.

Mark Pryce CA joins Campbell Dallas

Mark Pryce CA has joined Campbell Dallas as a Tax Partner, based in the firm’s
Glasgow office.

He joins Campbell Dallas from Weir Group, where he was a Senior Tax Manager leading a team responsible for international tax reporting, forecasting, provisioning and compliance roles across all Weir Group businesses.

Mark is also a mentor on the ICAS global virtual career mentoring programme.

F&C UK role for Alexa Henderson CA

Alexa Henderson CA has been appointed to the Board of F&C UK Real Estate Investments Limited as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the audit committee.

Alexa is a Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee Chair of Dunedin Smaller Companies Investment Trust plc and Adam and Company. She is also a Non-Executive Director of James Walker (Leith) Limited and the Scottish Building Society.

Alexa was previously a Director of the WM Company.

Elaine Lorimer becomes new CEO of Revenue Scotland

Elaine Lorimer has been named the new CEO of Revenue Scotland, the tax authority responsible for the administration of Scotland’s devolved taxes.

Elaine is the current Chief Executive of the Law Commission and will start her new role in March.

A qualified lawyer and public finance accountant, Elaine has operated at Board level in central and local government for more than 20 years.

Mark Gibson CA promoted to Thomson Cooper associate

Thomson Cooper has promoted Mark Gibson CA to associate in its Dunfermline office. Mark qualified as a CA in 2008 and joined the firm in 2009. He has been involved in the farming community for many years and specialises in agricultural accounting and taxation.
