Lord Smith to oversee process of further devolution

Leading CA Lord Smith will lead the commission on more powers for Scotland.

ICAS has welcomed the announcement by Prime Minister David Cameron this morning that Lord Smith of Kelvin CA is to oversee the process for further devolution to Scotland as the Chair of the Scotland Devolution Commission.

Lord Smith is a past-President of ICAS and a respected business leader.

His recent roles include Chair of SSE; Chair of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and Chair of the UK Green Investment Bank, and he is Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde. He was formerly Chair of The Weir Group plc and a Governor of the BBC.

ICAS Chief Executive, Anton Colella, said, "Lord Smith is respected around the globe as a man of the highest integrity and a man who gets things done. He is one of the UK's leading business figures and is an excellent choice for an extremely challenging role shaping the next chapter in our political history."
