Lord Green urges focus on trust

A change in business culture is needed to rebuild public trust, according to Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, who delivered the 2014 Aileen Beattie Memorial Lecture.

Addressing an audience in London on 17 June, Lord Green said business has work to do to meet public expectations and a range of issues should be addressed.

These, he said, include: 'destructive financial engineering'; market dominance by a few players who distort the market for the majority; some foreign takeovers which are not in the national interest, wealth inequality and potential tax avoidance by large international companies.

The former minister of state for trade and investment, and group chairman of HSBC Holdings, set out a series of actions which should be undertaken to redress the balance.
