Interview with ICAS Foundation Student, Lewis
Find out how support from the ICAS Foundation helped Lewis build his confidence and achieve success.
How did you hear about the ICAS Foundation?
"I first heard of the Foundation about two months before I started University. I got an email saying the deadline for applications was coming up and, as I didn't really know what it was about, I looked into it and it ticked all the boxes."
What difference has it made to your life?
"I originally talked myself out of ever going to university, until around the end of my fourth year in high school. I always thought there was no point in trying as I was never going to be able to afford going further.
“The ICAS Foundation has supported me and given me a great amount of confidence in the work I have done through university so far.
“The ICAS Foundation is a strong family that is behind me and able to support me."
"You feel like you are a part of something and that there are expectations for you. My mentor and the people at the Foundation believe in me and hope that I do well, and that drives me to achieve.”
Are you planning on becoming a CA?
"Gaining the CA qualification is definitely what I see myself doing after university.
“From what I've heard from my mentor (a retired CA) it seems to open so many doors. You can go into private, public or work overseas and it just seems like a great accreditation to have.”
Would you recommend the ICAS Foundation to others?
“I would definitely advise anyone looking to go to university to look into it.
“There are two other people I know on my course who are part of the ICAS Foundation. Being at ICAS events and meeting other students is a good thing to be a part of.
"I would definitely advise anyone, who might otherwise not be able to go to university, to look into it.”
