The Institute of Indonesia Chartered Accountants (IAI) has become the fifth associate member to join Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW).

Launched in 2013, CAW has since set a standard of excellence and enhanced the international relationship for over 630,000 chartered accountants across the globe.

With this announcement, IAI (or Ikatan Akuntan Indonesia) has joined an international group of five institutes who have been awarded associate member status in recognition of their commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards. IAI will have the opportunity to contribute to the further development of the chartered accountancy profession and promote exciting networking opportunities for its members.

President of IAI, Professor Mardiasmo, said: “I believe accountants in Indonesia welcome the opportunity to work together with Chartered Accountants Worldwide and its members, to strengthen the role of the accountancy profession and influence the future of the global profession.

"Membership with and recognition from CAW is a key milestone in IAI’s continuous efforts to further strengthen the Indonesian qualification, with the broader aim to build the capacity of professional accountants in the country and be ready with the ever-changing regional and global environment.”

Headquartered in Jakarta, IAI maintains regional representative offices in 33 provinces of Indonesia. It was established in 1957 to guide the development of accountants in Indonesia and improve the quality of accountancy education and professional standards.

In 2011, it was recognised as the permanent secretariat of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA).

Pat Costello, Chairman of Chartered Accountants Worldwide, commented:  “I am delighted to see IAI join the Chartered Accountants Worldwide family. Every member brings something new to the table and we look forward to working with them on developing the profession and enhancing the value to our members."

Anton Colella, ICAS CEO, commented: "As a founding member of CAW, we are delighted to be welcoming IAI and look forward to a promising future working together. The addition of another professional body to the CAW family further highlights the professional respect and recognition chartered accountants receive around the globe and the importance of our place at the heart of business."

ICAS is one of the five founding members of CAW, a group that also recently expanded to include the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).
