Tributes are paid to the CAs who have recently passed away.

Professor David Flint CA

Professor David Flint CA, who lived in Auchterarder, died on 14 May 2017 aged 98. He was born on 24 February 1919 and admitted to membership on 28 March 1949.

A Past President of ICAS, Professor Flint began his career as an apprentice at Mann, Judd, Gordon & Co in 1939. He later became Senior Partner at the firm and held several academic positions at the University of Glasgow, including Johnston Smith Chair of Accountancy and Dean of the Faculty of Law.

Professor Flint was mobilised as a Territorial Army Officer in 1939 and served in the Royal Corps of Signals for seven years. He was present during the D-Day landings.

Robert Logan Boyd CA

Robert Logan Boyd CA, who lived in Glasgow, died on 9 February 2017 aged 66. He was born on 6 April 1950 and became a CA on 23 July 1976.

After qualifying with Whyte Stevenson & Roberts, Mr Boyd took a position at Pannell Fitzpatrick & Co, was later Partner at Cuthbertson Roberts and subsequently joined Wylie and Bisset, where he remained until retirement.

Robin McCord Dunham CA

Robin McCord Dunham CA, who lived in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, died on 27 October 2016 aged 80. He was born on 28 December 1935 and admitted to membership on 25 March 1959.

After qualifying, Mr Dunham took a position with Broads Paterson & Co, was later a sole practitioner and, prior to retirement, was a freelance writer.

Cynthia Ho BCom CA

Cynthia Ho BCom CA, who lived in Gourock, died on 10 August 2015 aged 54. She was born on 9 May 1961 and joined ICAS on 4 March 1988.

After qualifying, Miss Ho took a position with Coopers and Lybrand (Hong Kong), was later Chief Financial Officer of Manager Intl Co Ltd (Hong Kong) and, prior to retirement, was a Senior Treasury Accountant at The Treasury (Hong Kong).

David Younger Johnston BCom CA

David Younger Johnston BCom CA, who lived in Malaga, died on 14 March 2017 aged 83. He was born on 6 March 1934 and admitted to membership on 25 March 1959.

After qualifying, Mr Johnston took a position with Riddell Stead Graham & Hutchison, was later with Robertson & Maxtone Graham and, prior to retirement, was a Partner at KPMG Peat Marwick McLintock.

Tony Sidney Kerry CA

The death has been announced of Tony Sidney Kerry CA, who lived in Sudbury. He was born on 21 November 1935 and became a CA on 23 November 1962.

After qualifying, Mr Kerry took a position with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co, was later Director and Secretary at GRA Group plc and, prior to retirement, was a sole practitioner.

Gavin Kenneth Lane BA CA

Gavin Kenneth Lane BA CA, who lived in Arbroath, died peacefully on 1 March 2017 aged 60. He was born on 21 August 1956 and joined ICAS on 25 November 1988.

After qualifying, Mr Lane took a position with BDO Binder Hamlyn, was later a Partner at Sievwright Dickson & Co and, prior to retirement, was a sole practitioner.

Melvyn Andrew Ruddocks BA CA

Melvyn Andrew Ruddocks BA CA, who lived in Glasgow, died on 25 February 2017 aged 61.

After qualifying, Mr Ruddocks took a position as a Corporate Recovery Manager at Arthur Young and remained with the firm following its merger to become Ernst & Young. Prior to retirement he was an EY Assistant Director.
