Continued growth in membership, the successful launch of The Power of One ethics initiative and the development of 'Virtual ICAS' are just some of the highlights from the 2015 Annual Review.

Membership of ICAS has reached a new peak of more than 21,000 CAs, with a 50% growth in members over the last 20 years.

Speaking at the ICAS Annual General Meeting on Friday (22 April), CEO Anton Colella said ICAS is now moving to a new stage in its transformation by building “the leading global professional community”.

Anton said: “Over the last few years our strategic aim has been to ‘build a professional community’. We believe this has served us well. Now our vision is to ‘build the leading professional global community’.

“We are entering a new and exciting era where half of our membership is based outside Scotland and we will seek to serve and support all members through our commitment to being a world class organisation.”

Anton said the refreshed ICAS Strategy was founded on three key themes – Global, Virtual and Diverse – reflecting an increasingly international membership, a focus on using new technologies to build the ICAS community and a commitment to supporting the broad range of members at all ages and stages in their careers.

The ICAS Annual Review 2015 highlights include:

  • Launch of the Power of One high profile initiative on business ethics.
  • ‘Virtual ICAS’ becoming a reality through a range of digital initiatives.
  • A landmark partnership with public sector accountancy body CIPFA.
  • More engagement with members under the age of 35.
  • Further growth in the ICAS Foundation which is now helping 70 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Anton said: “In the year ahead, we are seeking to build on these and other notable successes to ensure continuous improvement and a sustainable future for ICAS.”

Jim Pettigrew CA, Chair of Clydesdale Bank plc and Edinburgh Investment Trust plc, stood down as President at the AGM after his year in office.
