ICAS grows international presence with new council members
ICAS has appointed three new international members to join its Council for the next two years, as part of its ambition to expand its global presence and build a leading professional community.
PwC Partner Clive Bellingham CA, based in Switzerland; Mazars Practising Director Kenneth Morrison CA, based in Hong Kong; and Shell Vice-President of Tax for the Americas, Jim Robertson CA, based in the United States; were appointed to the ICAS Council at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, 22 April 2016.
In a move reflecting the increasing number of ICAS members under the age of 35, two young CAs have also joined ICAS Council. Indy Hothi CA, EY Senior Economist, and Laura Sutherland CA, EY Manager International Tax Services, both based in the UK, will serve for the next four years.
ICAS announced at its AGM that 50% of its members (10,000) are now based outside of Scotland in more than 100 countries around the world. Membership of ICAS has reached a record high of 21,000 CAs, which represents a 50% increase over the past 20 years. More than a quarter of members are under 35 years of age.
Anton Colella, ICAS CEO said: “The reputation of the CA qualification has long been an international career passport for our members. From Singapore to South Africa, New Zealand to Nigeria, 50% of ICAS CAs are now based outside of Scotland in more than 100 countries around the world.

I’m delighted to welcome Clive, Ken, Jim, Indy and Laura to the ICAS Council and we look forward to benefitting from their experience and knowledge in the years to come.”
The five new members of the ICAS Council are:
Clive Bellingham CA
Clive Bellingham, who is a Partner with PwC and a member of the firm’s global board, qualified as a CA with Bird Simpson & Co in 1984. He joined Coopers & Lybrand and led the audit group with the firm in Saudi Arabia in 1985, before moving to Switzerland in 1987. In 1994, he was made partner at PwC Switzerland and went on to be elected to the governing board in 2001. From 2004 – 2012 he held various roles at the firm including Advisory Markets Leader; Governance, Risk & Compliance Leader; and Trade, Industry & Services Consulting Leader. He was elected to the global board of PwC in 2013.
Kenneth Morrison CA
Kenneth Morrison CA is Practising Director at Mazars in Hong Kong and Chairman of Mazars Greater China. He qualified as a CA with a Big Eight firm and joined their Hong Kong office in 1976. In 1979, he joined Inchcape plc group, becoming Finance Director in 1983. He joined an international accounting and business advisory firm as a partner in 1985, becoming managing partner in 1988. Kenneth was appointed Managing Director of Mazars CPA Limited in 2007 and became Chairman of Mazars Greater China in 2012.
Jim Robertson CA
Jim Robertson CA is Vice-President Tax for the Americas at Shell Oil Company, and is based in Houston, Texas. He qualified as a CA with Price Waterhouse in 1981 and joined Shell the same year. Since then, he has held nine different tax and finance roles in Shell. Jim is a member of the International Tax Committee at ICAS and chair of the Oil & Gas Tax Executives Group. He is also chair of the Advanced Diploma in International Tax Committee at the CIOT, a board member of the Houston brand of the International Fiscal Association and a member of the Chief Tax Officers group of the Houston Tax Executives Institute. Jim is currently a director of the International Tax and Investment Centre, an independent, non-profit research and education foundation.
Indy Hothi CA
Indy completed his CA training with EY in London, and now works for the firm as a senior economist. Indy plays a key role in leading the EY Sikh Network as part of EY’s Interfaith Working Group. He is a trustee of Khalsa Aid, an independent relief organisation set up to provide humanitarian aid in disaster areas, war zones and places of civil conflict across the world, and is co-founder of ‘Hothi & Othi’, which supports artists from developing countries. In 2015, Indy won the ICAS One Young CA competition, representing ICAS and the profession at the international One Young World Summit in Bangkok.
Laura Sutherland CA
Laura Sutherland CA has been appointed to serve as ICAS Council member for Grampian. Laura, from Tain, is a Manager in the Aberdeen International Tax Services team at EY and has served on the ICAS Local Area Committee for a year. An accountancy and finance graduate, she qualified as a CA with EY in Edinburgh in 2012 and had a short spell on the EY UK tax desk in New York before joining the Big Four firm’s energy team in the north east of Scotland. Alongside her ICAS activities, Laura also leads EY’s Connecting Emerging Leaders (CEL) programme for rising business talent in the north east.
