Douglas Flint CBE CA, Group Chairman of HSBC Holdings plc, provides insights into the world of banking and the economy.

ICAS members had the opportunity to hear from one of the most senior figures in global banking at a recent event.

Douglas Flint CBE CA, Group Chairman of HSBC Holdings plc, provided insights into the world of banking and the economy at the Edinburgh event, which is one of a series being held to commemorate the 160th anniversary of ICAS.

In an article for the July issue of The CA magazine, you can read what Douglas has to say about topics including the unintended consequences of regulatory change, demands for banks to carry more capital and the increased focus on banking security.

He also offers his perspective on the world economy - including an interesting observation on some predicted catastrophes that failed to materialise – and on the prospects for 'new entrants' to banking, including Marks and Spencer.

Watch highlights from the seminar and hear Douglas' comments in the ICAS video below.
