Double delight for new CA ITPs
A group of newly-qualified CAs have made history by celebrating admission to ICAS as both CAs and ICAS Tax Professionals (ITP).
The new members, pictured above at the recent ICAS Admission Ceremony in Edinburgh, were among the first to study ITP alongside their CA qualification in the early stages of their career.
More than 100 candidates have now completed their training for the dual qualification and since its inception in 2011 more than 300 students have embarked on the ITP qualification.
Mark Allison, Executive Director of Education explained that the ITP syllabus was designed with the aim of providing a qualification that is "professional, flexible, relevant and consistent".
He said: "ITP is relevant to tax professionals developing their knowledge and skills in the initial stages of their tax career, as our new members have demonstrated. We have also seen a number of candidates who have been working in tax for some time using ITP to consolidate their knowledge and skills and to demonstrate their expertise in this area."
The new CA ITPs completed their qualifications with KPMG's Tax Business School, and have been working in a variety of tax backgrounds. The qualification was delivered in partnership, with tuition from ICAS, Tolley Exam Training and KPMG tutors.
To have the two qualifications provides you with an excellent foundation for your career and also recognises the importance of tax in business today.
New member Siobhan Blunden said ITP "provided me with a well-rounded insight to tax as a whole rather than focussing on one specific area".
Siobhan added: "To have the two qualifications provides you with an excellent foundation for your career and also recognises the importance of tax in business today."
David Hancock now works in Transaction Services and said: "Being dual qualified has really assisted me by giving me a great grounding across the spectrum of issues that can come up during a transaction."
The ITP qualification can be taken alongside CA, or following completion of CA or another accounting qualification. It is also available as a stand-alone qualification, and exemptions are available for prior studies. With a variety of methods of study ranging from classroom tuition to online material, it can be completed over a period of between 18 months and three years.
We wish our new members all the best as they continue on their tax careers. Visit our ITP section to find out more.
