Countdown to the One Young World Summit
Our One Young CA competition winner Inderveer (Indy) Hothi will shortly be jetting off to Thailand to attend the One Young World Summit in Bangkok from 18 – 21 November.
Run in conjunction with Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW), ICAS delegate Indy will join an elite group chosen by each of the main UK accountancy bodies to represent the accounting profession at the conference.
One Young World – an organisation designed for change
One Young World was founded in 2009 by global entrepreneurs David Jones and Kate Robertson. It brings together the brightest young people from around the world and empowers them to make lasting connections to create positive change back in their own organisations.
The One Young World Summit is an annual event where young people from global and national companies, NGOs, universities and other forward-thinking organisations are joined by world leaders to debate, formulate and share innovative solutions for the pressing issues the world faces. These include the role of business in society, how to improve transparency in business and government, as well as the impact of climate change, global health and hunger relief.
This year, keynote speakers include musician and campaigner Bob Geldof, former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Nobel Prize winner Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank, a pioneering microfinance organisation which has changed the lives of some of society’s poorest people by providing them with loans to fund grassroots projects.
Who attends the conference?
Indy will join an impressive line-up of conference delegates from around the world. One Young World delegates are 18-30-year-olds who have shown exceptional leadership ability and who have a strong commitment to drive positive change.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Indy said: “I’m looking forward to representing ICAS at the One Young World Summit. It’s an opportunity for me to understand some of the key challenges faced by society today and how, as trusted business advisers, we can all play a part in building a better working world."
With so many great speakers and interesting people to meet, this is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Indy. We’ll be bringing you all the latest news directly from Indy at the conference in a series of One Young World feature articles next week.
