Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore are the best cities in Asia to start a business, according to research by Startup Genome.

The Global Startup Ecosystem Ranking examines cities around the world for the advantages they offer to entrepreneurs in funding, support and global connections.

Beijing had the highest overall ranking of the Asian cities on the list and took fourth place on the global leaderboard, largely thanks to a high volume of successful startups.

Shanghai placed eighth, due to numerous funding schemes, and Singapore placed four places behind, though had the highest score for local talent.

Hong Kong is yet to appear in the top 20 but was identified in 2015's report as having the strong potential to develop into a start-up hub.
