Berkeley Energia appoints CA as CFO

Paul Thomson CA has been appointed CFO of mining company Berkeley Energia.

With over 20 years of experience in the finance industry, Paul joins Berkeley Energia from Aureus Mining where he held the position of CFO.

Announcing the appointment, Berkeley Energia said: “Mr Thomson’s appointment has bolstered the financing department of the Company and his experience in his previous roles will be highly relevant as the Company prepares for construction.”

Paul also spent 14 years at EY as an Assistant Director in the Big Four firm’s transaction advisory services oil and gas team.

He then went on to become a Senior Manager working on business development for Kazakhmys.

Ex Deloitte Vice Chairman joins Consumer Intelligence

Louis Jordan has been named Chairman of specialist market research company Consumer Intelligence.

Louis joins the company from Deloitte where he spent 16 years as partner and Vice Chairman.

Prior to this, Louis was a partner at KPMG, specialising within the banking and insurance sectors, primarily in the UK, USA and Switzerland.

Commenting on his new position, Louis said: “I look forward to working with the team to further develop their global research and advisory practice.”

CEO Ian Hughes said: “I’m delighted that Louis has chosen to join us. 13 years ago, we were simply benchmarking prices and now our customers are increasingly looking to us to provide thought leadership and advice on a Global scale. Louis will help us support this growth and challenge us to reach further.”

RSM secures first head of client legal services practice

Audit, tax and consulting services provider RSM has hired Carolyn Brown as its first head of client legal services practice.

Carolyn joins RSM from Howard Kennedy LLP where she was head of employment.

The firm established RSM Legal LLP after gaining a licence from the Solicitors Regulation Authority to practise law in April 2016.

David Gwilliam CA, RSM’s chief operating officer said: ‘Recent legislative changes have opened up new opportunities for us to provide legal services to our clients. Given our strengths in HR consulting services, our initial focus will be on providing employment law advice in addition to corporate and commercial legal advisory work. However, we fully expect to further expand our legal services practice in the future.’

Carolyn said she was “delighted” to move into the role, and that she is looking forward to “growing our client legal services practice.”

David Jeffcoat made Partner at Chartered Accountant firm Alexander Sloan

David joined the firm, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, in 2003 and went on to be appointed Associate in 2013.

He said that he intends to “play a key part in continuing the long history of the firm.”

He continued: “I trained at Alexander Sloan, one of Scotland’s oldest firms of accountants, and I am excited to be taking on the role of partner.”

Phil Morrice, Managing Partner of Alexander Sloan, said: “2017 is a very significant year for our firm and David’s accession to the partnership is very welcome.”

KPMG appoints new Cardiff Director

Maria Samra has been appointed Director of KPMG’s consulting practice in Cardiff.

Maria was previously the owner and Director of Timon Samra Associate.

She also worked as Director of Digital Transformation at Barclaycard and Interim Chief Information officer for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water.
