Paul Boyle OBE CA FIIA named new President of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors
The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) has appointed Paul Boyle OBE CA FIIA as President for 2017.
Paul has filled the role of Chief Audit Officer at insuranc provider Aviva since 2010. He was previously the first Chief Executive of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and was Chief Operating Officer of the UK’s Financial Services Authority. Paul has also worked with WH Smith Group and Cadbury Schweppes in senior finance roles.
He qualified as a CA with PwC 1983 and served on the ICAS Council for six years from 1990. Paul was made and Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2010.
Ian Peters, IIA Chief Executive, added: “Paul has had a long and successful career within internal audit, and financial management, and has a wealth of experience to bring to his new role on the council. His expertise and support will be integral in helping us with our work in raising the profile of internal audit more widely.”
Simon Collins CA to step down as KPMG UK Chairman
Simon Collins CA has announced he will not seek re-election as Chairman of KPMG UK when his five-year term ends in March. The Big Four firm has confirmed that Simon intends to enter into consideration for leading the firm’s global network.
Simon joined KPMG in 1998 from NatWest, where he was Global Head of Debt Structuring. He founded KPMG’s debt advisory practice and has assisted major corporates, private equity houses and governments with their financing needs.
As well as holding the position of UK Chairman and Senior Partner of KPMG, Simon is also a member of the KPMG Global Executive Committee and Board and chairs the KPMG Foundation.
A spokesperson for the firm said, “Simon has established himself as one of the most innovative leaders of the Big Four.
"Under his leadership KPMG was the first professional services firm to introduce an audit which went beyond regulatory requirements, as well as navigating a new world of audit tendering to regain its position as the number one auditor of listed companies in the UK."
The spokesperson added that KPMG will begin the process of electing his successor in the New Year.
BDO appoints new partners
BDO has appointed three new partners to its audit and business restructuring practices as part of its plan to recruit 25 new partners in 2016/17.
Gary Harding joins BDO’s audit team from EY, where he was Audit Partner for seven years. He will be advising private equity and entrepreneurial businesses across a range of sectors and international regions from BDO's Manchester office.
Andrew Palmer was previously a director at AlixPartners and joins BDO’s pensions advisory team. He specialises in providing employer covenant advice to pension scheme trustees and companies.
Gary Drennan returns to BDO’s London audit team after seven years with BDO USA’s Security and Exchange Commission practice in Chicago.
Former ING CFO moves to Aegon
Matthew Rider, former CFO of ING, is expected to join Aegon in 2017, following a sabbatical from the industry.
The insurer announced that its Supervisory Board will formally nominate Matthew for appointment as CFO and member of the Executive Board, succeeding Darryl Button, at its AGM in May. The appointment is subject to approval by the Dutch Central Bank (DNB).
Matthew joins Aegon with more than 25 years experience in various capacities within the financial services industry.
New CFO named at ISS UK & Ireland names new CFO
The Head of Treasury at ISS Group Denmark has been promoted to CFO of ISS UK & Ireland.
Barbara Plucnar Jensen has worked with ISS Group in a variety of finance and treasury roles since 2009. She was previously with Danske Bank, where she worked for over 10 years in treasury, risk management and advisory.
She said: “I look forward to helping to develop a stronger business which will continue to provide a robust organisation which is flexible enough to manoeuvre in an environment of increasing diversity and change.”
