Derek Bond CA appointed Director of Revolution Global Sports Consulting

Derek Bond CA has joined Revolution Global Sports Consulting as a Director.

Derek is a Partner at Bond Chartered Accountants and also operates as Head of Regional Development for Growthdeck. In the past, he was Co-Founder and Managing Director of Squareknot UK, a Scotland-based equity crowdfunding company. He has also held senior financial positions at John R Weir, Reg Vardy and Caledonia Motor Group. Derek qualified as a CA in 1989 and trained with Wylie & Bisset.

Brendan Waters CA named Chief Financial Officer of Wilson Imports Limited

Brendan Waters CA has taken up the position of CFO at Glasgow-based Wilson Imports Limited.

Brendan joins the business from Dog Digital, where he was CFO for four years. Prior to that engagement, he was Finance Director at FanDuel and spent four years with Johnston Carmichael, ultimately as Director of Corporate Finance. Brendan qualified as a CA in 2000 with PwC.

Financial Reporting Council adds members to Board

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) will welcome Julia Unwin CBE and Jenny Watson CBE to its Board from 1 April 2018, it has been announced.

Julia currently chairs the Independent Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society in England and is a Non-Executive Director of Mears Group, as well as a Senior Strategic Adviser at the Health Foundation. Jenny chairs the Independent Complaints Council at Portman Group and is a Non-Executive Director of the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Sir Winfried Bischoff, Chairman of the FRC, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Julia and Jenny to the FRC Board. Their public interest experience, particularly in the not-for-profit and social sectors, and among broader stakeholders will bring further insight into the FRC’s strategic thinking, particularly as we reach out to wider society in pursuit of our mission to promote transparency and integrity in business.”

KPMG appoints new head of UK financial crime practice

Karen Briggs has been named as the head of KPMG UK's financial crime practice.

She moves into the role from her previous position as Head of Brexit at the Big Four firm. Karen has worked almost exclusively with KPMG since 1986 and has a breadth of experience across the board.

She said: "I am delighted to be returning to my roots in forensic at a time when financial crime against businesses is on the rise.

“With much financial crime being conducted cross-border, I am also looking forward to working with our global colleagues to help our larger clients understand their exposure and response to financial crime.”

TUI Group announces new Chief Financial Officer

Birgit Conix has been named as successor to Horst Baier at tourism company TUI Group.

She has 25 years of experience in financial roles within various industries and across international markets. She joins TUI from Telenet, where she has been CFO for over four years.

Professor Klaus Mangold, Chairman of TUI Group’s Supervisory Board, said: ”We have recruited an international top manager as CFO for our Group. With her international background and comprehensive experience from various sectors and companies, [Birgit] will be a great asset to TUI."
