Alex Tait CA named Regional Managing Partner at RSM UK

Alex Tait CA has moved into the position of Regional Managing Partner for Scotland and Northern Ireland at RSM UK, succeeding Robert Ross CA in the role.

Alex has been at RSM for over 20 years, leading assurance services in Scotland and the North of England in his capacity as Partner. He qualified as a CA in 1999 with HLB Kidsons.

David Gwilliam, CEO of RSM, said: “With our breadth and depth of service and sector capabilities we enjoy the strongest regional presence in the middle market, and Alex will further strengthen and grow our market position north of the border.

“Alex joined the firm as a trainee and it’s great to see ‘homegrown’ talent progressing to senior roles within the business. His promotion is testimony to his talent and leadership qualities; and our ongoing commitment to training and development.”

Peter Lloyd CA elected Chairman of the Scottish Refugee Council

Peter Lloyd CA has been named Chairman of the Scottish Refugee Council, as announced at the organisation's AGM on 16 March.

He previously led the 'Out of Africa into Malta' project, providing migrants with financial aid for education and entrepreneurship. Peter also spent some time in local government, notably as Assistant Director of Finance with Aberdeen City Council and Chief Internal Auditor of Grampian Regional Council. He qualified as a CA in 1979.

Peter commented: "As the new Chair of Scottish Refugee Council, I see this as a time of new beginnings. We are joined by new board members, a new Chief Executive, and new Ambassadors. But our vision remains the same - for a Scotland in which all people seeking refugee protection are welcome.

"I am sure that many people share this vision and I urge them to support us to achieve it for a better Scotland."

Lorna Jack CA joins University of Aberdeen committee

Lorna Jack CA has been appointed to the Governance and Nominations Committee of the University of Aberdeen, where she is an alum.

She is Chief Executive of the Law Society of Scotland and is currently serving as Interim Chair of Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd. Lorna qualified as a CA in 1985.

The Committee advises the University Court on matters of governance and reviews compliance with the Scottish Code of Good HE Governance.

London Stock Exchange announces new CEO

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has named David Schwimmer in the role of Chief Executive Officer. He will take over from Interim CEO David Warren on 1 August 2018.

David's most recent position was as Global Head of Market Structure and Global Head of Metals and Mining in Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs in New York. His career has spanned over more than 20 years and he is a graduate of both Yale University and Harvard Law School.

David said: "It is an honour and privilege to be asked to lead London Stock Exchange Group. It is both an iconic institution and a great business. I look forward to working alongside the Group’s highly capable management team to continue to deliver value for its customers, employees and shareholders."

Competition and Markets Authority nominates Chairman

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has appointed former Chairman of the Treasury Select Committee, Andrew Tyrie, as its new Chair. This decision is subject to approval from the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee.

In the past, Andrew has served as Chairman of both the Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards and the Liaison Committee. He stepped down from his role as a Conservative MP for Chichester last year after serving 20 years.
