He was appointed to the Edrington Board in 2015 as Managing Director of Regional Power Brands with geographical responsibility for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Dominican Republic.

He is also a Vice President on the Brugal & Co. Board of Directors.

Mark Thomson, Scottish Building Society Chief Executive, said: “Aileen is a welcome addition to the senior management team, and to the board. With her strong background in all elements of strategy and finance, previous experience with a mutual organisation, and a proven leadership ability we are confident she will make a valuable contribution to the effective running of the society on behalf of our 33,000 members.”

Former Deloitte Chairman to head up new firm

The former Global Chairman and UK CEO of Deloitte, John Connolly, has partnered with HgCapital to create CogitalGroup, a new accounting body.

John will operate as Chairman and oversee the growth of the firm through acquisitions with a focus on high net worth clients and entrepreneurial businesses. CogitalGroup has already taken over London firm Blick Rothenberg, a niche player with annual fee income of £25m.

John commented: “We plan to build a different kind of advisory business with an exceptional level of innovative, client focused service.

"Delivering high value service to our clients will be an obsession. We feel there is a place in the market for a firm focused on entrepreneurial businesses, delivering a personal service whilst harnessing the value-enhancing role of technology. This approach, already embedded in Blick Rothenberg, provides an excellent foundation for our new business."

Sir Charlie Bean joins UK fiscal watchdog

Former Bank of England Deputy Governor Sir Charlie Bean has been nominated to head the budget committee of the UK’s independent fiscal watchdog.

If his appointment is approved by the Treasury Select Committee, he will replace Steve Nickell at the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) when he steps down after the Treasury's Autumn Statement in December.

Sir Charlie previously spent 14 years on the Monetary Policy Committee at the Bank of England and has also been adviser to the Treasury and a number of committees both in the UK parliament and in the EU. He is currently professor of economics at the London School of Economics.

He said: "I am delighted that the Chancellor has nominated me for appointment to the OBR’s Budget Responsibility Committee.

"Sir Stephen Nickell and the rest of the BRC have done excellent work in establishing the credibility and reputation of the OBR, and I will be honoured to take up the post should the Treasury Committee wish me to do so."
