Dr Rimla Akhtar MBE CA joins the Board of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority

The Rt Hon Karen Bradley MP, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, has appointed Dr Rimla Akhtar MBE CA and Janet Johnson to the Board of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA). They will serve terms of three years.

Rimla is an Inclusion & Diversity Consultant at RimJhim Consulting in London. She is the first Muslim woman to sit on the FA Council and is Chair of the Muslim Women’s Sport Foundation. Her MBE was awarded in 2015 for her exceptional work championing equality in sport.

She qualified as a CA with PwC and was named the 2016 ICAS One Young CA.

Lorna Jack CA named as Interim Chair of Highlands and Islands Airports

Lorna Jack CA will take the position of Chair of Highlands and Islands Airports (Hial) as Transport Scotland seek replacement for Mike Cantlay.

Lorna is currently Chief Executive of the Law Society of Scotland and chairs the Hial audit committee. She has previous experience in senior roles with Scottish Development International and SE Forth Valley. Lorna qualified as a CA in 1985.

Transport Minister Humza Yousaf commented: “Lorna has been an invaluable member of the Hial board since 2014, and she is the perfect candidate to step into this role and help guide the company over the coming months.”

International Accounting Education Standards Board reappoints Professor Elizabeth Gammie

Professor Elizabeth Gammie has been reappointed to the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB) after a successful first term.

Currently Head of Robert Gordon University's Aberdeen Business School, Professor Gammie first joined the IAESB in 2015 and has been instrumental in the implementation of International Education Standard 1: Entry Requirements to Professional Accounting Education Programmes.

She said: "It is hugely gratifying to contribute to the enhancement of the accounting provision through the setting of education standards and supporting less developed nations in their quest to meet these standards."

Professor Grammie recently contributed to the ICAS Diversity Report.

KPMG announce new Head of International Tax at KPMG

Melissa Geiger returns to KPMG as Head of International Tax after three years with GlaxoSmithKline as Global Head of Tax.

She was previously a Tax Partner with KPMG and was with the Big Four firm for nine years. Melissa is a chartered tax advisor.

Michelle Quest, Partner and Head of Tax at KPMG, said: “Melissa is well known within KPMG as a truly high calibre tax professional and has since built significant practical experience and sector knowledge from her time in the life sciences industry."

New COO and Head of UK Strategy at Pacific Asset Management

Pacific Asset Management have announced the appointment of Ben Sears as Head of UK Strategy and Paul McLernon as new Chief Operating Officer.

Ben is a Co-Founder of and Adviser to Syndicut London. He also operates as Senior Manager of Venture & Equities at Puma Investments UK.

Paul joins from Pensato Capital where he was COO and Partner. Prior to that appointment, he was Vice President of Product Development at Goldman Sachs International.
