CA named in list of world's top CEOs

CEO of Aberdeen Asset Management Martin Gilbert CA has been named in the top 20 of the Harvard Business Review's (HBR) best 100 CEOs in the world.

Martin Gilbert The co-founder of the international investment management company ranked 18th on the annual list, up four places from last year.

By combining data of the financial performance of a company over its CEOs tenure and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data, HBR produces a final rank for each CEO.

To calculate each CEO's rank, HBR combines the overall financial data of their company over their tenure with environmental, social and governance data.

Lars Rebien Sorensen, CEO of global healthcare company Novo Nordisk, topped the list again this year.

Sir Martin Sorrell of communication services group WPP was the leading UK CEO at number two, up three places from his ranking last year.

Mr Gilbert was born in Malaysia and educated in Aberdeen. A graduate in law and accountancy he qualified as a CA in 1981, going on to co-found Aberdeen Asset Management.

He is Chairman of the Prudential Regulation Authority's Practitioner Panel and sits on the Scottish Government’s Financial Services Advisory Board.

He is also a member of the International Advisory Panel of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the International Advisory Board of British American Business.

Mr Gilbert is also a non-executive director of British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC.
