A great ICAS initiative for start-ups

Anton's Account: CAs can play a key role in helping fledgling businesses through our latest initiative.

It always fills me with pride to hear how our CAs are making a difference in supporting business and I am pleased to say that one of our new initiatives has the potential to deliver that help where it is particularly relevant in these financially challenging times.

ICAS is launching a business start-up mentoring scheme which offers CAs an opportunity to provide vital support for businesses trying to get off the ground.

While mentoring schemes currently exist for growing existing businesses, we recognised that there was a gap in support available for those enterprises taking their first steps and our new programme is focused on addressing that.

I believe that the earlier people seek quality support to start or grow their business the more successful they are likely to be.

We're now starting a pilot for this programme, in partnership with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) and I'd be delighted to hear from CAs who would like to volunteer their time and expertise.

Support will be available to mentors from ICAS and our partners at the SCC, including payment of travel and expenses and there is more information on how the programme works in our downloadable guide.

I'm confident this will be the start of a very successful package which shares the business experience of CAs with entrepreneurs taking the first steps to start and grow their business.

This scheme goes hand-in-hand with other mentoring initiatives we're working on at ICAS and shows clearly how we are working to deliver real benefits to the business community.
