Asian cities account for 50% of the most expensive places to live in 2017, according to research from The Economist - and Singapore is number one.

The latest Worldwide Cost of Living rankings revealed that Singapore has taken the title of 'most expensive city' for the fourth year running.

Cities in Japan have seen a recent resurgence due to a sustained recovery in the strength of the national currency. China, on the other hand, has seen its urban hubs drop up to 16 places.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) bi-annual report on the global cost of living is often used as the benchmark for businesses assigning expense account allowances and compensation packages to employees overseas.
