Mufseen Miah CA

Mufseen Miah CA enjoys being part of such a diverse network and the job security that comes with being a CA.
I am the Finance Director of LGBT Pride in London and I am also leading financial planning and analysis for Little Dot Studios, which is a digital media company. In addition to my roles, I am also a podcaster.
How did you become a CA?
I graduated from the University of Leicester with an economics degree and then I joined RSM UK and trained to become a Chartered Accountant through their graduate scheme.
Why did you become a CA?
I decided to become a CA after university because I have a natural curiosity for businesses and how they work as well as what to do when things don’t go to plan. Becoming a CA has also provided me with a lot of job security, which is hugely beneficial in any career path.
Do you have any advice for anyone thinking about training to become a CA?
If I were to give advice to anyone who is thinking about becoming a CA, I would say that it’s not easy. There is a lot of training and studying involved, but it is very rewarding. The skills you pick up along the way allow you to build the career which you have envisioned for yourself.
Can you tell us about your current role as a CA?
As the Finance Director for Pride in London, I am running one of the largest single day events in London which requires a lot of financial planning, it’s no small feat. But I would not have had the opportunity to be in this position, had I not become a CA. It allows me to be an advocate for human rights and LGBT rights, something I didn’t think I’d be doing 10 years ago.
What makes you proud to be a CA?
What makes me proud to be a CA is that during my training contract, I met such a diverse range of people from various backgrounds and degrees as well as people coming straight from college. And now, years later, I get to see all these people doing so many different jobs and following their careers and passions.
What is the most interesting project you have worked on?
During my training contract, I went on an international secondment to Boston, through the RSM McGladrey network. That gave me an opportunity to see what life was like in America for the profession and really build my work connections while I was out there.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
On top of being a Finance Director and a Finance Analyst in both my roles, I run a podcast called ‘Queer Talk’ which spotlights LGBT issues, LGBT rights and LGBT people. The podcast is really fun to make and I hope you listen to it sometime.
