Chelsea Robertson CA

Chelsea article header

Chelsea Robertson CA trained with ICAS to gain a highly regarded qualification and now uses her expertise to help when managing international clients.

I’m a CA and Corporate Tax Advisor at Anderson, Anderson & Brown LLP, based in Aberdeen. More specifically, I’m part of the large Corporate and International Tax team which means I get to liaise and work with clients oversees in different jurisdictions and learn about different oversees tax.

What made you want to Become a CA?

From a very young age I loved numbers. I studied accounting and finance at secondary school and university, where I heard from a lot of different ICAS members about the qualification.

When I got my traineeship with Anderson, Anderson & Brown I started my progression towards a CA qualification. The expertise you learn is amazing. You are able to be a well-rounded business advisor and I think that’s what I love most.

What's the most interesting project you've been involved in?

I’m part of our international and large corporate team which means I get to work with clients to prepare Norway and Denmark returns, which I really enjoy. It gives me experience of tax jurisdictions outside of the UK and gives me experience of working with other overseas affiliates, building up my network and giving me experience of working with other tax authorities.

Any advice for potential trainees?

My advice would be to do it. The opportunities that come from the CA qualification are so worth it. And also, the lectures are so useful. Use the time to ask questions, to get help. You can email questions and really use the resources that are available for you and you will get through it.

My other tip is to study hard. You need to put in dedication and hard work from the beginning, which will really help you towards the end of the exam period when tensions are high and you’re trying to remember so many things.

What makes you proud to be a CA?

I am proud to be a CA because it is a highly regarded qualification that can open so many doors. ICAS is a trusted body across the globe and can offer so many job opportunities and career progression in various industries.
